PIP assessments not fit for purpose

The ONS figures show that 70% of the DWP decisions at tribunal/appeal stages were overturned in favour of the claimant.

This is particularly ominous as this will be the assessment which will be used to decide if a claimant has lcwra in future.

AIBU to think that the whole system is unfit for purpose?

I wish posters would bloody educate themselves before commenting on threads. My daughter gets PIP, guess what she works too. How dare she? Well that’s because her PIP payments enable her to get to work. I do hope no one you love needs help and support one day.

My son gets PIP and works too. He has a good and understanding employer, although he still finds it quite stressful at times.

Whilst the assessors may be health care workers I don’t believe they have the experience, knowledge or ability to assess the myriad of conditions that people present with, and don’t ask the right questions or delve far enough. My son, with autism and other related complex conditions was assessed by an occupational therapist who consequently awarded him nil points after asking him nothing related to the disabilities his autism caused. We appealed and faced a gruelling interrogation by the professionals on the appeals panel, which was the type of assessment I expected initially. My son was then awarded enhanced daily living and lower mobility PIP.

My point is that when applied correctly, the current rules seem to favour most applicants, rightly or wrongly according to your own views. In order to save money the goverment has to raise the bar for applicants to be successful because the cost of the increasing number of awards is not sustainable.
