Just that really.

I get dizzy reading a long line of text and lose track....

When I am genuinely interested in reading your story. And would love to help if I can.

OP posts:

Yeah, in the nicest way, would love it if people spaced their posts

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 21/03/2025 06:13

Not everyone has a knack for writing, and I myself have crept in “text speak” in my posts because I’m lazy. I think when writing a list that’s also a sentence, two items is enough. More than two is a long sentence and is unnecessary. Full stops are good too.

SquashedSquid · 21/03/2025 06:20

Some people use adaptive technology to write posts, and it isn't always possible to edit.

Bodumb · 21/03/2025 06:21

No, actually I disagree with you. If people don’t use paragraphs, you have a warning that they’re probably absolutely nuts and there’s no point interacting.

VolcanoJapan · 21/03/2025 06:24

OK 👌

TeenLifeMum · 21/03/2025 06:27

Considering literacy levels are so low, I think you’re unreasonably expecting people to have the ability to write to your standards. Just because someone can’t use paragraphs (or doesn’t think to) shouldn’t exclude them from this site.

BallerinaRadio · 21/03/2025 06:29

Give the AI a chance it's still learning how to communicate like a real human 😉

Disabled people who use adaptive technology are, "Absolutely nuts"?

Lurkingandlearning · 21/03/2025 06:33

@TeenLifeMum OP didn’t say they should be excluded from the site🙄

If someone can use all the other keys, the Return key wouldn’t be a problem. They don’t have to use it but it’s useful for them to know that they are likely to get more responses if they do

LetsPhotographTheLights · 21/03/2025 06:38

I use paragraphs, but if I post using my phone, the paragraphs I’ve used don’t show. If I post using my iPad or use my iPad to view a post made on my phone, paragraphs I’ve used do show.

Exactly, it’s a good indicator the poster is nuts, - or thick as pigshit. It’s a natural filter.

RandomUserName96 · 21/03/2025 06:44

If I open a post, and it's just a wall of text, I'm likely not going to read it.

I have no issues with some text speak or abbreviations, just poor/no spacing

SquatBetty · 21/03/2025 07:32

I don't mind a long post or even some text speak within it but for the love of God, please split it up so it's readable.

I genuinely find it very difficult to read a huge chunk of text without paragraphs so I tend to skip these posts too.

DustyLee123 · 21/03/2025 07:33

The occasional comma and full stop would be nice too.

SunDey · 21/03/2025 07:35

It's ok to have standards.

Even if a minority of people are unable to adhere to them for reasons outside of their control.

(This applies to many things, and many arguments on the internet).

And it doesn’t.

But it will end up with them getting fewer responses as long streams of text are hard for most people to read and make sense of.

It makes sense to ensure your post is readable and accessible to the majority.

Presumably people who post on MN also read other posts. They can work out that spacing aids readability.
