My mum was a toxic narc.
When I was about 17 my friend phoned me and j picked up the phone from the upstairs extension. While I was on the phone my mum picked up the phone on the downstairs extension and started eavesdropping cos we could hear her breathing!!!
My friend says this to me on the phone “I think someone’s just picked up the phone and listening to our conversation - that’s really rude isn’t it” .. and I replied
“yes it is” - then shortly afterwards I could hear the click of her putting the phone down!!
excellent way to get back at a narc!!
