Could this be serious?

Hi, I have diabetes type 2 & pcos. Highly medicated on Metformin only at the maximum dose I’ve been on it at least over a year and it really has helped it has brought my periods back and I have lost quite a bit of weight on them.
my sugar was last checked a few weeks ago and it was perfect. Also I got my blood test results recently and it has definitely gone down in terms of sugar. The thing that I’m concerned about is for a few days now I have been feeling extremely dizzy and lightheaded out of the blue. I had an appointment today and the nurse said she found high levels of sugar in my urine. I don’t understand because I’m on the highest dose of Metformin & my diabetes is usually well controlled. I do have upper respiratory infection right now so I don’t know if that’s relevant- feel quite crappy with sneezing, sore throat to swallow like glass & bringing up blood from my nose& throat. What do I do? Could this be serious the sugar in my urine? I don’t know what’s wrong :(

An infection will often disrupt diabetes control, so that could be a contributing factor, also are you using throat sweets or cold remedies with sugar in as they can also cause sugar spikes.

Second the previous posters point. Infections known to play havoc with blood sugar levels. I wouldn't worry too much yet - do you have a blood sugar monitor? You could keep an eye yourself at home. If not you can get urine dipsticks on Amazon or at the chemist for a couple of quid

Type 1 over here, and yes, infections/any sort of illness really does affect your blood sugar levels. I have to increase my background insulin upto at least 150% when I'm not well otherwise my sugars just run high. Hope you start to feel better soon X
