Does anyone know which tunnel this is in London please, it runs next to the Blackwall tunnel which doesn't become a toll chargeable tunnel until 7th April 2025?
I want to know if this tunnel incurs a toll fee.
I have attached a photo.

Silvertown tunnel.

Nchanged89 · 19/03/2025 19:56

Thanks. And I'm reading this as it's not payable until 7th April?

It's not open at all until then. It's new. Once it opens both Silvertown and Blackwall will have tolls.

RelapsedChocoholic · 19/03/2025 20:01

Silvertown is the other side of the picture from the green line

The Blackwall tunnel is actually 2 tunnels- north and south bound are separate, I think the green is over the north bound one

The Blackwall tunnel is free until silver town opens, then both will be charged at the same rate

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/03/2025 20:10

That’s the Rotherhithe tunnel. No tolls (and no plans for tolls). It’s quite narrow (there are vehicle size restrictions) and traffic on the south side is usually bedlam. The queues will get even worse for Rotherhithe when they start charging a toll for Blackwall.

Nchanged89 · 19/03/2025 20:10

Thankyou very much!

No it's not Rotherhithe. @RelapsedChocoholic is totally right. I didn't look at it properly at first but it's just part of the Blackwall tunnel.

Coffeeisnecessary · 19/03/2025 20:13

Silvertown tunnel is on the other side of the blackwall tunnel, that is the Rotherhithe tunnel and don't think there will be any tolls. But from 7th April both blackwall and Silvertown (new one) will be chargeable.

RainingRoses · 19/03/2025 20:16

That is not the Rotherhithe Tunnel. The Rotherhithe is much further along and no where near OP’s picture.

Here it is. OP’s location is the other side of this picture.

Rotherhithe is much further away from Blackwall and doesn't go to Poplar

RainingRoses · 19/03/2025 20:25

OP it’s the Rotherhithe that will be free to use but it’s an awful tunnel - very narrow and full of fumes. I’ve seen pedestrians in there occasionally and I’d be amazed if they make it out alive on the other side. Same with cyclists.

Alternatively you can use the Woolwich Ferry or go further into London and use Tower Bridge.

Your picture is a completely different scale to the OP’s. Look at the OP’s scale!

it’s absolutely the Rotherhithe tunnel.

ImRonBurgandy · 19/03/2025 20:48

Silvertown is at a right angle to Blackwall

Jesus. 🤦‍♀️ Look at the scale of the OP’s picture.

And no the Rotherhithe tunnel doesn’t go to Poplar but the road from the North side of the Rotherhithe tunnel (A1203) does go straight to Poplar and A1203 is shown on the OP’s picture as the route to Poplar.

For the umpteenth time, yes it IS the Rotherhithe tunnel.

scalt · 19/03/2025 20:54

I’ve walked through the Rotherhithe tunnel, just so I could say I had. As a driving instructor, I used to take learners through it - it’s a rite of passage.

Bubbles07 · 19/03/2025 21:02

The green is the northbound side of the Blackwall Tunnel, definitely not Rotherhithe. I live very close by and drive it frequently. The southern entrance to the Rotherhithe tunnel is nowhere near the O2 and Greenwich Peninsula.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/03/2025 21:13

Nope. Both of those are the Blackwall Tunnel - one is southbound, one is northbound. I literally live next to it. This map is better.

I’ve posted a better map which shows that it’s the northbound side 😊 I’ve cross posted with Bubbles

Used to live in Rotherhithe. The petrol fumes in the tunnel were the best bit of my drive!

It's really really not 🤣.

Every reference point on the OPs image is close to Blackwall.
