To hate the new attached bottle caps

Honestly, it is a horrible design - the hanging cap makes it close to impossible to pour out a drink without it getting the liquid into the cap - meaning you need to wipe off the bottle after screwing it back on (if it's say milk or juice).
Also makes the flow more likely to go down the bottleneck too. Not to mention trying to drink out of the bottle with the cap still attached and getting in the way.
Pretty much you need both hands now for a simple task of pouring out or drinking out of a bottle !! One hand to keep the cap out of the way.
Just constantly annoying - I started cutting them off. I never lost a bottle cap in my life - who is this made for?

Apologies for the rant, but I am wondering what am I missing here.

I just rip it off.

2Rebecca · 19/03/2025 23:15

I hate them too. They are fiddly if you have arthritis in your hands

MinticecreamwithaCherryonTop · 19/03/2025 23:18

This reminds me of the rubbish paper straws that aren't strong enough to pierce juice cartons; the straws bend in on themselves. Often I find myself having to pre pierce it first, before even inserting the straw. This isn't always possible if you're out, or if my child has one in their packed lunch. The straw usually turns to mush too midway through drinking. Some brands are designed better/stronger than others with this aspect.
They can help the environment, and create more user friendly products at the same time. There are some cartons where you don't need a straw, and just rip off a tiny piece, and drink from the corner. Why can't they make them all this way? It would also save them putting paper straws in plastic wrappers stuck to the cartons as well.
McDonald's polystyrene lids as well, bloody awful, I cannot order their hot drinks anymore because the feel on my mouth is just too horrible.
Oh and nothing to do with the environment but chuppa chups sodding lolly wrappers, are they expecting these to be removed without a sharp implement?

You just need to pull the cap right back and it doesn’t effect how you drink or pour out of the bottle in the slightest. It does have a detrimental effect if you don’t pull it back properly. So just pull it right back

cherish123 · 19/03/2025 23:19

They are difficult to pull off. You now have to cut them.

KittenPause · 19/03/2025 23:20

They’re not on my 4 pint milk bottles

MissRoseDurward · 19/03/2025 23:41

For me i can never get them to close properly so they leak. I've tried pulling them off completely but then you get long sharp bits of plastic i keep catching myself on.

I hate them too, for the same reasons. Managed to spill a drink all over the carpet once, because I accidentally jiggled the table the bottle was on, and the lid wasn't on properly.

ScarletWitchM · 19/03/2025 23:47

The bottle tops & plastic rings that they attached to, that get dropped or littered are more likely to cause harm to wildlife such as ducks & swans as they often end up in waterways and get caught in their airways.

push the cap all the way back when you need to use the bottle and make sure it’s aligned when closing.

im not a fan of the attached lids but understand why they exist and they don’t cause me that much inconvenience really

pizzaHeart · 19/03/2025 23:50

Yes, they are very annoying.

How strange!

I'm not bothered by them at all although I rarely buy bottled drinks. When I do have a bottle it pleases me that they're being made less litter -y. Can't say I've never noticed a problem with the lids.

Hayley1256 · 19/03/2025 23:54

Hate them! They've put them on milkshake bottles so when you drink it on the go from the bottle you have to watch out for the little bit in the lid spilling on you! I rip them all off now

Sodthesystem · 20/03/2025 07:50

I'm all for helping the environment but the thing is, as this post highlights, they piss people off soo much that they just pull them off. Chances are they are then difficult to rescrew on so sometimes ppl don't bother. Which defeats the purpose of them in the first place.

I'm sure lots of people don't put them back on, in protest, too. Which I think is fair. Not fair that the environment bares the cost, but fair that we say no to being micromanaged and risking our things ruined every time we buy a meal deal.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/03/2025 08:07

I like them on balance, we’ve dropped bottle tops in the dirt during walks a time or two too often.
I find they’re no bother if I break one side of the attachment so they’re just hanging by one thread - would be better if they were designed that way I think.

They’re on water bottles.

WingBingo · 20/03/2025 08:40

Just click them! Once you hear the click they stay out of the way

BobbyBiscuits · 20/03/2025 08:43

They're rubbish for coke because they don't keep in the fizziness. I try to drink it from a straw (by order of my dentist) but the lid gets in the way. I also sometimes feel like it's practically ripping my hand to shreds trying to open it for the first time?!

It's possible to twist it off. Quite easily. I realise that isn't the point, but if it bothers you that much then do that.

fluffiphlox · 20/03/2025 08:45

Don’t you just firmly click them back out of the way and carry on as normal?

WoahThreeAces · 20/03/2025 08:45

I really like them. I like how they click right back and then I never lose the lid.

joanofaardvark · 20/03/2025 08:50

Twice now I’ve ended up with drips of smoothie down my front which have come out of the attached cap - unsure how I’m supposed to avoid this?! Stick my tongue in the cap once opened? (Awkward and unpleasant) Just accept I’ll be wearing a bit of my drink from now on? The attached cap doesn’t bother me for water and I don’t drink fizzy drinks but for something coloured and sticky on the move, when I previously would just ‘grab and go’ - it’s put me right off buying the product.

MissRoseDurward · 20/03/2025 09:03

What with the attached caps and the artificial sweeteners, is it all part of a secret campaign to stop us buying fizzy drinks?

PinataHeeHaw · 20/03/2025 09:07

Don't you pour the liquid with the attached cap at the top so liquid doesn't get caught there?

Ihad2Strokes · 20/03/2025 09:30

Sharptonguedwoman · 19/03/2025 23:04

I am sorry things are difficult for you. I’m glad you found an alternative that works for you.

Thank you 😊

I think people mean from when they have shaken smoothies and the like

It's one aspect that hasn't bothered me because I don't buy that kind of drink

PluckedOutOfThinAir · 20/03/2025 09:34

I hate them too. I don't often buy plastic bottles but when I do i drink straight from the bottle and the cap is annoying. The worst is that it's so.difficult to close them again leading to leakages and if you are having anything sparkling it loses all its fizz because I can't close them properly.
