I've joined a gym near me in hopes to lose a bit of weight thing is I'm really nervous about going myself. I'm on the larger size hence wanting to lose a bit of weight. I'm not sure mentally i can go through the doors at the gym. Help!

Gyms aren’t just for people wanting to lose weight, they are for people who want to get strong too. You will see lots of older people, and lots of different shapes and sizes. And no one cares, so get in there!

Nobody will bat an eyelids. However Could you maybe book a couple of pt sessions to give you some company and confidence? Also you’ll then have at least 1 friendly face going forward.

What is it you're nervous about exactly? The gym is just full of normal people, a real mix. You'll see people like you who need to lose weight, people who are already fit and toned, average looking people, plenty of older people trying to stay healthy. I used to go. I'm a very average middle aged woman and no one gave me a second glance. Just do it - you'll wonder what you were so worried about!

People at gyms tend to be really supportive, especially the super fit people. You get the odd dickhead as you do in any public places, but you're more protected at the gym because all the cool people will have your back.

I've gone to the gym , not exactly in the best of shape, was so self conscious and nervous but everyone was just concentrating on doing there own thing. Don't worry about anyone, concentrate on yourself and what you are doing. You will start to love the gymand be more confident when you lose weight
