Just curious about how different cultures buy/prepare/eat food. I'd love to know where you're from and what you would typically eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

England.

Breakfast = None (don't eat it).

Lunch = Ham salad or tuna salad roll, piece of fruit, packet of Walkers.

Dinner = Steak & chips, chicken curry & rice, shepherds pie, spaghetti bolognese, fish & chips, roast dinner, lasagne, pizza, anything from the Chinese takeaway.

The list is endless really.

Doro371 · 16/03/2025 21:26

Germany.
Breakfast is muesli with Greek yoghurt and fruit. Rolls and eggs at the weekend.
Lunch often is risotto/pasta bake/pie, that sort of thing or pasta pesto etc
For dinner, we usually eat bread with cold cuts/cheese/tomatoes/cucumbers etc.
DS has lunch at school and often eats our leftovers for dinner.

I grew up in Scotland. Every day without fail, we had porridge with salt for breakfast, deep fried mars bars for dinner and mince&tatties for tea (unless it was a special occasion, and then it was haggis, neeps and tatties.) Every meal accompanied by Irn Bru.

TempleBar9631 · 16/03/2025 22:22

Scotland.

Brunch - muesli, fruit, nuts, berries. Occasionally a poached egg with spinach and mushrooms.

Supper - pasta dishes, rissottos, homemade soup, stir-fries, baked potatoes, lots of fish dishes. Sometimes go mad and have a steak with an egg on top.

Can you move in and be my mommy, I know no one who cooks that much. I’d be so happy if someone cooked me all the things you’ve listed. Good stuff.

Deep fried candy bars for dinner, though I like the idea for dessert I’d never be able to eat that more than every 6 months. That’s really rich.

Toronto, Canada

Breakfast: either a plain croissant with a latte, or a slice of sourdough and olive oil with black coffee

Lunch: soup, salad, or leftovers

Dinner: varies wildly. The main cuisines we cook at home or eat out at are Indian, Italian, French, Thai, Chinese.

CarpetKnees · 16/03/2025 23:01

Not sure how you are making a correlation.
DH and I have adult dc.
All of us make different choices for breakfast and lunch (and did when we all lived in the same house).
We all have different 'favourite' main meals too.

You jest, but my cousin used to be a flying dentist in the Hebrides and said that no one drank water. Only Tea, whisky, beer and Irn Bru.
