Same colour bag and shoes?

I’m going on a cruise in September so have bought my self a lovely long dress for the evening do. I’ve got blue shoes and a silver bag so thought I’d buy either a blue bag to match the shoes…or vice versa. My mum said it wouldn’t matter, wear the blue shoes with the silver bag! Like seriously, they don’t match.

What do you think? She feels I’m wrong!!

I think matching bag to shoes is an old fashioned idea. Silver bag will be fine.

My shoes and bag never, ever match unless I am going for an elegant tonal look where (for example) everything I am wearing is shades of burgundy.

Matching shoes and bag is tricky and does look old fashioned if not done right.

Not matching (but going together) is the norm nowadays and blue + silver is a great combo.

Matchy-matchy is pretty old-fashioned.

I get in the 1950s things matched but would never notice these days

Matching accessories is a bit retro, a bit 80's so if you're not going for that look I think it's good to mix it up a bit.

I have some sartorial rules.

1. Never more than 3 colours at once.
2. Bag and shoes always match, in one of the 3 colours (but it is usually navy blue).
3. Never wear black or brown.

My purse and handbag nearly match, they're different shades of berry, although that wasn't planned. I wouldn't get berry shoes to go with the handbag though.

Black dress with orange handbag and shoes would look good.

The dress is blue with sequins, the shoes blue but a darker shade.

Silver bag and blue shoes sounds fine (matching is definitely dated), assuming you are not about to drip feed that your dress is lime green or something?

Agree with others, I’d try NOT to match. I feel it looks dated.

You've got it the wrong way round! Op wants to match.

Match the shoes to the dress as you won't always have the bag with you. Just wear silver jewellery to tie in with the silver bag.
