My other half's side of the wardrobe has become a dumping ground for clothes that don't need washing but he's worn, empty deodorant cans, basically just things he can't be bothered to tidy away.
Then there's his tray on the coffee table which I bought him with the intention of him keeping his keys, wallet, phone, other bits in. It is currently full of old receipts, dead batteries, coins, watches, empty gum wrappers etc.
AIBU in expecting him to sort these out or is he right in saying they're his so he'll keep them as untidy as he wants?

I'm messy (not to this level) and this would annoy me.

MasterBeth · 15/03/2025 10:20

You're complaining about his tidiness inside his own cupboard?!

IamSmarticus · 15/03/2025 10:27

You bought him a tray to keephis bits in and that seems to be exactly what he is doing, you can't complain about that. Or are you wanting to police exactly what bits he puts in there?

Same with his wardrobe really, is the mess inside and so can't be seen when the doors are closed? Wouldn't really bother me if so.

MasterBeth No we both use the same wardrobe just he has his side and I have mine

If the tray on the coffee table looks like a flat bin, then he’s a slob. Keeping rubbish in the wardrobe he shares with you ditto.

I assume you’re newly living together and his slobbing wasn’t expected. Well now you know. If you’re going to stay together you are going to have to lower your standards because he clearly isn’t going to raise his. And if it is early days of you living together, the honeymoon period so to speak, his standards will probably get a lot lower as time goes on.

What a delight

Hopefully you haven’t got children with this incompetent manchild.

Im proudly ocdish and couldn't cope with this in my home environment. Probably do a blitz. Shove all his shit do a huge spring clean and put all his essentials in the tray and other stuff in cardboard box under the bed. Ditto bedroom etc. Then keep on top of it. I know I know ... why should you do it?.. but seriously I couldn't live my life with an untidy person's shit in communal spaces. Think seriously.. is this a deal breaker?
