Dubai chocolate

On a recent flight back from Thailand we had a stop in Dubai airport, I was tremendously excited as I wanted to try Dubai chocolate that has been going viral on social media. Bought a bar of the chocolate, it cost £9 and it was just meh. Ok but nothing special. Prefer a flake. Anyone else tried it? What’s your thoughts? AIBU in saying it’s nowt special?

Same here, complete rip off! l thought typical Dubai, all pretty packaging and no substance.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 15/03/2025 07:59

Well it's just a chocolate bar at the end of the day

theribbonroom · 15/03/2025 08:29

I try and avoid anything viral tbh

biscuitsandbooks · 15/03/2025 08:48

What did you expect? It’s just a chocolate bar.

GenderFluid90 · 15/03/2025 09:25

Viral things usually don't amount to much a lot of the time.

changedusernameforthis1 · 20/03/2025 12:40

I'm a bit late to the thread but the chocolate bars didn't really do it for me - however the dubai chocolate and strawberry cups are amazing.
I can only find them in my local takeaway though.

I only heard of this last week, and couldn’t believe it when I saw it was £10 a pop in Sainsbury’s!

I like the crunchy grass filled chocolate but it's nothing special

I just clicked on that link, it looks revolting!!

ShriekingTrespasser · 26/03/2025 16:21

Someone bought me a bar and I love it. Maybe if I had to pay £10 my taste buds may have been a bit more subdued.

PeloMom · 26/03/2025 16:26

I liked it. That’s the thing with everything- just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s to everyone’s taste. My cousin made a home made version though and was sooo good- better than the ‘original’- not sure whether because was so fresh.

WillimNot · 26/03/2025 16:28

I must have seen the wrong viral post, it definitely wasn't chocolate despite that being the tagline... 😂

fussychica · 26/03/2025 17:05

I just saw a headline saying Waitrose are limiting customers to two bars each. I had no idea what it was. I won't be buying even one bar at £10 a pop.

Snorlaxo · 26/03/2025 17:09

Judging from what I’ve seen on SM, they vary in quality and taste. For example I’ve not seen anyone compliment the Lindt one and the reactions to ones like Costco look lukewarm.
As someone who loved pistachios before they went viral, I’m hoping that the trend ends soon.

Exasperateddonut · 26/03/2025 17:12

Right, can someone explain to me what Dubai chocolate is and why the world is losing their collective marbles over it?

I am utterly lost.

TheodoraCrumpet · 26/03/2025 17:19

I keep seeing it at checkouts in fairly low rent places. Cheap booze mini markets, corner shops type of thing. Nowhere that suggests a premium or exclusive product. I suppose people grab them if they've heard of them and are both curious and prone to impulse purchases.

HurdyGurdy19 · 26/03/2025 17:21

Meh - it's the new Prime drink, isn't it. People will buy it for grossly inflated prices just to be able to say they've tried it. This time next year, it'll be in the bargain bins in B&M 😅

Haha that’s where I see them too! I haven’t tried it and won’t be because I don’t like nuts in food but it’s only about a fiver in most of the places I’ve seen it.

Comedycook · 26/03/2025 17:22

I haven't tried a bought one yet....I made my own though...it was fantastic!

Laundereddelrey · 26/03/2025 17:24

I had one it was very nice like a kinder bueno but I wouldn’t buy one. I’d rather a wholenut or on a reallly good airport visit a giant Toblerone.

It's a chocolate bar with a pistachio cream filling that also has very thin strands of konafa pastry (a bit like shredded wheat) in.

I tried a knock-off brand because I like pistachio and chocolate, but it wasn't amazing - the filling was too runny and there wasn't enough filling for the amount of chocolate. Don't think it cost £10 though!

Bjorkdidit · 26/03/2025 17:36

So what's a good one that's available in the UK?

Or what recipe are people using to make it?

I've only seen it in Lindt and a PP says that's not a good one.

Comefromaway · 26/03/2025 17:36

I imagine there is a lot of variation between brands.

I LOVE pistachio chocolate having discovered Venchi a few years ago. But Lindts version isn’t very nice.

I’ve not tried the Dubai but if I do I’ll probably go for a premium brand such as Laderach

Edit to say it apparently contains tahini paste which I don’t like so that’s me out.

itsjustbiology · 26/03/2025 17:48

It reminds me of the Prime drink..a huge fuss over nothing! Give it a month nd they won't be able to give it away. I am sure its just aimed at the tiktok kids who's long suffering parents spend all day tracking it down like me ..only to be told by said child its crap mum!!
