I live alone and am finding nice ways to treat myself well- so far I have

lay out my tea bag and mug next to the full kettle so it’s always ready for the next cuppa
Pu my PJs on the radiator so they are always warm
Friday night I swing home via M and S food to get some weekend treats

What else?

Membership at Tate. I love art and between Tate Britain and Tate Modern I have a really lovely time.

Ooh, loads.

I eat really well and go to the gym.

In terms of little things, I've bought a bunch of flowers every week for the last 20 years. Just a cheap supermarket bunch.

I drink my morning coffee and eat my breakfast out of a really nice mug and bowl.

I often treat myself to a half bottle of champagne and drink it from a lovely glass, wrapped up on the sofa, with a scented candle burning.

I do my own gel nails.

I often have an 'everything' bath on a Sunday afternoon, which will get a LOT nicer when we finally make over our bathroom!

This sounds amazing, but what’s an everything bath?! I feel like such a thing may be much better than my standard baths…

thebear1 · 14/03/2025 15:35

I have a cat, sitting with him on my lamp makes me very happy and relaxed.

Full body hair removal, face mask, body exfoliator, face exfoliator, foot scrub and pushing my cuticles back!

Treat myself to art supplies I don't actually need but enjoy, then giving myself time to play with them.

Use essential oils in a diffuser and in a diffuser pendant so I can be surrounded by beautiful scents that calm and uplift me.

Try to get plenty of steps every day. I've noticed fewer muscle and joint aches since keeping track. My daily routine doesn't often require it, so it takes a conscious effort.

5128gap · 14/03/2025 15:45

I've arranged my bedroom so it's like a hotel room. Anything I don't use currently and regularly has been banished to storage so I'm organised and clutter free, like I've just unpacked on holiday. I have my little luxuries, nice products and towels, lovely bedding, and all sorts of little comforts at hand, so every night is like staying in a place where the reviews say 'thought of everything'. It makes me very happy.

StMarie4me · 14/03/2025 15:46

Learn to say No and please myself.
Eat well, sleep well and plenty of exercise.
Grow a beautiful garden.
Decorate my home to my personal taste.
Rest when tired.
Surround myself with my 3 lovely cats.
Plenty of peace and quiet.

Since he arrived last summer I spend one entire day every week with my friend her daughter and the daughters lovely perfect little baby.. it has been over twenty years since I last fed/winded/bathed/sung to/played with a baby (no grand kids yet) and after a dreadful last couple of years it is bringing so much happiness to my life. I look forward to it every week.

At this moment in time, while my hair is falling out from chemo? Getting my head shaved! Then I don’t have to see hair everywhere ( literally!)

When I was going through chemo I did exactly the same, it made me feel a lot better than hoovering my hair every day.

the other things i did that made me feel better

  • a bath twice a week with lovely epsom salts and infused oils followed by a lovely cream applied on all my body including scalp
  • a weekly walk with friends
  • preparing for the moonwalk
  • my sister and friends and husband and children giving me so much love

please take one day at a time. Chemo is shit. Take care

hobnobs4life · 14/03/2025 16:08

I got an eyelash lift and tint and have a haircut booked this weekend. Also bit the bullet and added swimming to my exercise routine and I feel so much better for it!

Hedjwitch · 14/03/2025 16:17

A cleaner once a fortnight. Coming home on the day she has been is bliss.
Wine
Candles( unscented)
Yoga once a week as I need to work on my balance.
Spending time in the garden
Swimming in the sea.

changedusernameforthis1 · 14/03/2025 16:45

I make sure we have nice biccies in to have with my evening coffee.

I've recently started making time for myself to learn another language because I've always wanted to.

I sometimes put on a wax melt and some candles when I have a bath or shower to de-stress.

Before walking the dog on a cold day, I put the heating on so that when we get home it's lovely and warm.

ShineyGreen · 14/03/2025 16:46

Once a week I cook a meal just for myself (dc at exh's overnight) and focus on what I really want, not just what my children will actually eat. Never fancy but always the best meal of the week.

Sugargliderwombat · 14/03/2025 16:46

A coffee in bed in the morning with the windows open for fresh air and to hear the birds sing.

That, and hair masks.

Sugargliderwombat · 14/03/2025 16:48

Oh and walk the scenic route to work.

MellowPinkDeer · 14/03/2025 16:53

I got myself a horse last year. I have always wanted one so now my treat is fresh air, peace and quiet, thinking time and soon also sunshine whilst hanging out with him.

walkingmycatnameddog · 14/03/2025 17:00

Lots of lovely ideas here. I have a terminal illness on palliative care and my big treat for myself is a walk to the beach, have coffee and a snack, read my book and enjoy the sun when it’s out. I love listening to all the chatter around me.

LoudPlumDog · 14/03/2025 12:50

In the depths of grief after my daughter basically dropped dead, so I’ve implemented a new skin care routine with new products
fresh flowers in the house
new bedding

I’m so sorry x

Crispyturtle · 14/03/2025 18:05

Have an elective blanket on a timer so it’s warm when I get into bed

have a heated throw on the sofa

a bunch of daffodils in the spring, carnations at other times

a coffee and a pastry in a cafe

on my days off from work I set aside a certain amount of time for housework (usually two hours) and then the rest of the day is my free time for reading, a walk, a swim, sewing, or whatever else I fancy that day

Full body hair removal, face mask, body exfoliator, face exfoliator, foot scrub and pushing my cuticles back!

That’s a proper good time. I love a DIY glow up. Nothing like lying there covered in gunk.
