I live alone and am finding nice ways to treat myself well- so far I have

lay out my tea bag and mug next to the full kettle so it’s always ready for the next cuppa
Pu my PJs on the radiator so they are always warm
Friday night I swing home via M and S food to get some weekend treats

What else?

A really good skincare routine, morning and evening. For most of my adult life I've thought that skincare and hair products were a waste of money but I'm looking and feeling so much better than I ever used to.

Judellie · 14/03/2025 13:38

I like a foot mask - you can get them for £1 in Poundland or Superdrug have some. I like the peppermint one the best or sometimes I use Aveeno on my feet.

Springsprung2 · 14/03/2025 13:39

A soak in the bath with some lavender Epsom salts, sometimes candles, a book and a glass of wine

LoudPlumDog · 14/03/2025 13:39

@Enigma53 and @LoudPlumDog 💐 the strength it takes to keep showing up for yourselves is incredible, you're amazing and I'm so sorry it's been so hard.

I am investing in regular therapy in the wake of a life implosion, get my nails done once a month and trying to go to the gym each week and have a good skincare routine which so far I feel much better for. Lots of long walks in rural spots as well.

Thank you so much for your kind words. You are 100% right, it takes every ounce of strength to get up and breathe in and out all day long.

glittereyelash · 14/03/2025 13:43

I dont really do anything but I definitely need to start. I've always been really bad at prioritising myself. Following this for ideas!

RaspberryBeretxx · 14/03/2025 13:44

So sorry for your loss @LoudPlumDog 💐.

I buy those cheap bunches of daffodils (£1-£2 depending on the shop), it's always so exciting watching them go from little buds to beautiful yellow flowers.

Devilsmommy · 14/03/2025 13:48

@Fstt1978 to make life even better for you having your morning cuppa you should get a hot water dispenser. That way no waiting forever for a kettle to boil. It's life changing😊

Squigface · 14/03/2025 13:57

L’occitane hand cream. It’s expensive but you’ll never look back. Get a set of the small ones and place where you’ll see them often (by soap in kitchen/in your car/handbag/desk etc).

Another vote for fresh flowers. I’m loving £1 a bunch daffodils right now. Supermarket gladioli also good when in season.

Self-heating eyemasks - sooo relaxing.

I pay £6 a month not to get adverts on ITVX. Money sooo well spent.

I alternate subscriptions (when I can afford them) - flowers/candles/beauty boxes - it’s lovely to get a “gift” every month and there’s loads of good introductory offers.

Change your alarm on your phone so you wake up to a favourite song instead of a blaring alarm.

Invest in a slow cooker and research recipes. Coming home to a house that smells of dinner is amazing when you live alone!

Switch pictures round on your walls. It’s amazing how a small change in perspective can alter the space.

Get a light on a timer so that you come home to a cosy house (great to deter burglars too).

Put all the boring essentials onto Amazon subscription so that you never have to worry about remembering to buy sink unblocker or toilet roll. It’s rubbish running out of stuff when you live alone and don’t have anyone to bribe to go to the shop for you!

DareDevil223 · 14/03/2025 14:08

A monthly pedicure so I have beautiful feet all year round and a monthly hour long deep tissue massage. I do a lot of weight training (which is also something nice I do for myself!) and it's just bliss.

Both things are worth very penny in terms of how they make me feel physically and mentally.

Writerbiter · 14/03/2025 14:12

Workout 3 times a week, every week. Good for my mental and physical health.

Get up early so I can at least have a shower in peace without a small child demanding something. I'm a much nicer person if I can start the day at my pace rather than preschooler pace!

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 14/03/2025 14:26

Not sure it's a self love thing but it makes me sooo happy... when I make a cup of tea I make 2. One in a normal cup and one in an insulated mug. So the second cup is like a prize cup of tea 20 mins after my first!
I love tea.

Darkrestlessness · 14/03/2025 14:28

Cleaner once a fortnight to do the things that have been bugging me but I never get around to.

AuntyMabelandPippin · 14/03/2025 14:29

I have a facial once a month. I just relax and let the world disappear, and often end up asleep!

Hedgesgalore · 14/03/2025 14:39

Tennis membership with outdoor and also indoor courts so I can play all year round.

Memberships for The Design Museum and Historic Palaces.

I buy nice wines and drink them.

My aga is on during the winter, I lean against it to drink my first coffee of the day, looking at my garden and watching the birds.

A hoover for upstairs and a hoover for downstairs = life changing 😂

InvisibilityCloakActivated · 14/03/2025 14:43

I love a good hour in a hot bath. Bliss!

And every now and then I have a day off and don't tell anyone. I don't see anyone or do anything strenuous or demanding, I just be.

Caroparo52 · 14/03/2025 14:44

Fresh flowers from Tesco. Scented candles. Have heating on.
Decent hairdresser and pedicure regularly.

Caroparo52 · 14/03/2025 14:45

Once treated myself to Quooker tap..... game changer

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 14/03/2025 14:47

English heritage membership as there's one of their properties just down the road. I go every weekend. Watch the seasons change in their beautiful garden and enjoy the peace.

Bignanna · 14/03/2025 14:50

Listening to the radio or watching a record tv programme in peace, while burrowing under a heated throw.
Chocolate from the fridge.

Xiaoxiong · 14/03/2025 14:54

I figured out how to turn my car climate control remotely, so now I turn it on when we stop at the train station just before mine, or 10 minutes before I go outside in the morning. Getting into a warm defrosted car is bliss!

Mumsnetting in the bath is another good one.

loopyloo52 · 14/03/2025 14:56

yoga every morning

notacooldad · 14/03/2025 15:01

Ive started being consistent with exercise.
I do reformer pilates and just book on random classes, so I go by time I can get there rather than the aim of the class, so sometimes it's really hard core sometimes it concentrates on legs or cardio and other times it maybe gentle stretching. It's expensive but I love it.

I've also been consistent with my weight training.

The other thing I've started doing is going to a health spa two Tuesday afternoons a month by myself and when that has finished meet one of my friends in the bar area for either something to eat or a coffee.

Shinyandnew1 · 14/03/2025 15:02

Nails done every three weeks-makes me very happy! I also love a hot bath (with a book) and my heated throw!

Pamspeople · 14/03/2025 15:09

I say no thank you to things I don't want to do and avoid people I don't want to spend time with

Olive567 · 14/03/2025 15:11

Regularly buy myself fresh flowers - or pick them myself at certain times of year.
Sometimes a whole body massage or facial.
