DH accidentally let baby eat some cinnamon bun?

AIBU to be annoyed by this... DH had my 6mo and he was eating a cinnamon bun. He said baby grabbed it (she's very fast with her hands) and brought it to her mouth. He immediately stopped her but not before he said she ate a tiny amount of it. Baby is acting fine and no reactions or anything but I'm still annoyed? I'm strict with what she eats don't want her eating processed foods, and obviously no added sugars until 2. She's only had a handful of freshly made fruits and veggies since starting solids at 6 months, I guess now we can add cinnamon bun to the list.

AIBU to be annoyed when it was an accident? I didn't go mad at him or anything but it's been nagging at me since it happened.

At 6 month your child is licking carpet. Let them have some buns now and again.

TickingAlongNicely · 14/03/2025 05:12

DD2 was a grabber. We had to give her own meal at every mealtime so she had something suitable. On one hand, she was very easy to wran as she ate what we ate. With her hands, no spoons. But we did have to be inventive... (fortunately we had a toddler so we were already cooking mild healthy food.).
Her first food was a pile of Scouts medical forms. Fortunately the Scouts parents found it funny and re did the paperwork!

The advice used to be Babies can't read baby books. Maybe now it should be Babies can't use Social Media.

malificent7 · 14/03/2025 05:12

Cinnamon buns are food of the gods...let her have a tiny bit now and again.

CordialVsSquash · 14/03/2025 05:32

Just to add, I think you have taken the advice really well OP @August24Mama and I hope your PPA gets better soon. 💐

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/03/2025 05:43

bless you - don’t be so hard on yourself

babies once weaned/ready for food will eat what they can

mini blondes at 5.5mths has her first macdonalds 🙀😳

dh and I were in tenerife and on the beach. Dh and I had a madonalds - I had a chicken sandwich. Dd on my lap. She suddenly lunged mouth open wide and took huge bite of bun and chicken and sat chomping it

Moopsie · 14/03/2025 05:50

You need to get a grip. Mine was eating spiders and bits of leaf as soon as she could crawl. It’s impossible to be on them 24/7 without going mad. She’s fine. These arbitrary rules are just making parents neurotic.

I had terrible PPA (always about someone else hurting DC) and left it way too late to seek help so I hope you’re getting some!

No

this is exactly what baby led weaning is. Having anxiety is horrible and I’m sorry you are experiencing it- CbT can be really helpful for this and local IAPT services should prioritise you as you are perinatal. It’s free and really worth doing.

LaLoose · 14/03/2025 06:14

My then-9-month-old at his first Christmas lunch secreted mini pigs in blankets down his nappy for
snacking. Didn’t catch him for a while (busy Christmas day). He’s 16 today. I don’t think he still hides snacks in his pants, but who can tell?

Okay I definitely see now I'm overreacting. I was just worried it was upset her tummy or be bad for her or something. Gonna just laugh about it and forget about it!

You do realise that sugar isn't actually dangerous for your baby to eat, right?
Yes obviously in large amounts it should be avoided but sugars are pretty much an essential part of the human diet?
Fruits and veg contain lots of sugar, things like sandwich bread will contain sugar etc. Please don't get yourself het up over it or your child will be the one sneaking sugary treats behind your back in a few years.

Yeah she's both our child, I could've worded that better

Oh she knew what you meant, she was just trying to be clever 😏 typical on mumsnet.

Summervibes24 · 14/03/2025 06:24

Mine are some of the cats dry food when she started crawling. Baby #1 I would have freaked out but this was baby #2 and I just removed the food and carried on with my day.

Sallysoup · 14/03/2025 06:29

RTFT people. Op fair play to you, I was side eyeing your early posts too but you took it on the chin. See if your GP can offer any more support now, because once your baby is crawling/toddling nothing is safe from being eaten 😅

BitOutOfPractice · 14/03/2025 06:36

I remember a story I read on here (I think) about a mom who was convinced her baby would only eat organic everything and was a bit uptight about it. When her baby started crawling she found him one day, freezer open, eating a findus crispy pancake straight out of the box 😆

Glad you’ve relaxed a bit and took the pasting you got very graciously!

Twiglets1 · 14/03/2025 06:36

DelphiniumHolly · 13/03/2025 23:00

It’s just a bit of bun…

Wait until baby is crawling and eating chips off the floor at soft play.

Or food from the cat bowl at their cousin's house.

Yuja · 14/03/2025 06:49

Bless you. My baby ate the mud off my trainer at about that age. She's 12 now and just fine.

Ladyzfactor · 14/03/2025 06:50

Sounds like you need to avoid social media, and realize that pretty much all mom social media influencers are mostly flat out lying about their lifestyle to get money from anxious mothers. As a side note my mother used to bring up the time she stopped me from almost eating cat poop. God only knows what she didn't catch me eating 😬

AgricolaOrBed · 14/03/2025 06:51

My first popped a desiccated cat poo into his mouth. My second had a thing for eating live garden snails. Completely horrible, but they’re healthy strapping teenagers now with no ill effects.

femfemlicious · 14/03/2025 06:52

Yabvu

Alittlebit9 · 14/03/2025 06:53

OP, my sister has PPA and I know what that can look like. Take a deep breath, rationalise, it will be absolutely fine ❤️

Teaandtoastserveddaily · 14/03/2025 06:55

Im obviously a dreadful parent because sharing a cake with my 8 month old is one of my favourite things 😅

You do sound very anxious op, which i empathise with as I'm an anxious mum too. But a little bit of cinammon roll won't do your baby any harm 🥰

SallyWD · 14/03/2025 06:55

Huge overreaction. You can't go through parenthood with kevel of stress and fear

Bubblemonkey · 14/03/2025 06:56

As long as it isn’t a space cake, she’ll be fine.

Annettecurtaintwitcher · 14/03/2025 07:02

A cinnamon bun is food, your baby is 6 months old. There is really nothing to worry about here.

autisticbookworm · 14/03/2025 07:04

Some posters are being a bit mean. I remember those early weening days you do want to get it right and There is a massive leap from fruit and veg to cinnamon bun! But she will be fine and no harm done.
