DH accidentally let baby eat some cinnamon bun?

AIBU to be annoyed by this... DH had my 6mo and he was eating a cinnamon bun. He said baby grabbed it (she's very fast with her hands) and brought it to her mouth. He immediately stopped her but not before he said she ate a tiny amount of it. Baby is acting fine and no reactions or anything but I'm still annoyed? I'm strict with what she eats don't want her eating processed foods, and obviously no added sugars until 2. She's only had a handful of freshly made fruits and veggies since starting solids at 6 months, I guess now we can add cinnamon bun to the list.

AIBU to be annoyed when it was an accident? I didn't go mad at him or anything but it's been nagging at me since it happened.

I'm in bed craving a cinnamon bun now.

itsobviousright · 13/03/2025 23:03

Breathe and unclench

Its fine

And no need to stick to fruit and veg now you're weaning - lots of healthy recipes for weaning friendly pancakes, muffins, pinwheels, porridge fingers etc. Have fun, and don't stress about the odd random thing making it down the hatch

One of mine ate a fag butt once. She's 28 now. Pretty sure your baby will be fine 🤣

Hahahahaha, I can only imagine what your reaction was to that 😂😂 Glad she was ok that's hilarious 😂 They really are sneaky little ninjas aren't they

Give OP a break, we all worried about something baby-related! What is PPA?

pizzaHeart · 13/03/2025 22:57

It was your child but not his ?

Yeah she's both our child, I could've worded that better

My baby’s first food was a handful of a bacon sarnie, grabbed at light speed and stuffed in her gob before I could blink. (She’s fine.)

LostMySocks · 13/03/2025 23:05

It's natural to be worried about doing the best things for you baby.

The important thing is that this was your baby doing the very developmentally normal thing of grabbing food from a parent. It wasn't someone feeding your tiny baby food that babies shouldn't eat.

It sounds like you have a lovely alert baby who is enjoying food. Don't worry too much about the sugar and getting a sweet tooth. Breast milk is really sweet (I know, it's sad but I tried some of mine as I wanted to know what my babies were eating). I'm assuming formula would also taste similarly sweet. So babies have already experienced 6 months of sweet taste so a little bit is sugar by accident will not upset things.

That's the main thing I was worried about, that it would negatively effect baby in some way. I see now I'm probably overreacting. I'm diagnosed with PPA and it can be very annoying sometimes.

Glad to hear and good that you didn’t go mad at your poor husband, hope crap , the poor bugger . Loosen up . But there is no doubt you will . Precious first born .

I didn't say a single thing to him, just a thought in my overly anxious mind

Post Partum Anxiety.

OP - are you getting support for this? Perinatal services are much more widely available than they used to be, but probs still a bit of a postcode lottery.

PrimitivePerson · 13/03/2025 23:07

Given the amount of dirt, fluff etc. the average baby ingests, I think you're overreacting. Very badly.

Darkclothes · 13/03/2025 23:07

DH had my 6mo... So its your baby and not DH's???

Does PPA mean post partum anxiety? Please speak to your GP or midwife about your anxieties OP and seek out further mental health support. Kindly, whatever help you are getting, is not enough.

My eldest put a snail in her mouth when she was about 8 months (I fished it out).

They have hands like steel traps once they're clutching something as well. It was in her mouth before I could do a thing about it 😂

yummyscummymummy01 · 13/03/2025 23:08

My son once eat a half eaten sausage he found in a soft play ball pit once 🤢

SemperIdem · 13/03/2025 23:08

Glad you’re able to see the funny side now, op!

5128gap · 13/03/2025 23:08

Sorry OP, but the thought of your baby grabbing a cinnamon bun and joyfully getting their first tiny taste of something lovely makes me smile. I'm glad you can lighten up and hope you can see this as funny and cute. Because it is.

TY78910 · 13/03/2025 23:08

Mine is 7 months and caught him eating one of his sister's school shoes the other day. Your baby will be fine.

I think it may have been a Freudian slip OP.

Massively over reacting. It’s cinnamon not cyanide

Needspaceforlego · 13/03/2025 23:09

Op chill. You're having a pfb moment. Just wait until DC2 comes along and it's wotsits at 10mths - given by DC1 who wanted to be kind and share 😊

I also want cinnamon bun, good taste.

PeepDeBeaul · 13/03/2025 23:09

Be grateful your baby is willing to try foods. The guidance used to be that you should let babies try anything and everything food wise as it builds a varied taste profile. If they only eat veggies and fruit then may not like other stuff like cereals and breads.

Yes it's sugary.. but a little bit of what you like is good for you. It's more important to teach a child about healthy eating habits than it is to cut out perceived "bad foods". (Obvs in an age appropriate way).

We used to go by "have 1 bad thing a day, keep the rest healthy". Worked till the kids were about 8...now I have one who eats a balanced diet and one who we constantly fight to encourage better food choices.

In a few years time you'll think back on "the cinnamon bun incident" and chuckle at yourself. Probably when you find your child fridge raising for the tenth time that day!

angelcake20 · 13/03/2025 23:09

DS was not keen on solid food for a long time so I remember being quite surprised when 11 month DD toddled over to his 3rd birthday cake and started shovelling it in!

Thank you for your kind comment! You're not alone in trying your own breastmilk LOL, I was curious and did too. I'd be lying if I said I didn't use it for coffee whenever I was out of regular milk😂😂

There are some needlessly spiteful posts here. The OP has accepted she was being unreasonable with grace and humour. ‘Sides, you’re allowed to be a bit neurotic with your PFB.

If it helps OP I have such a battle getting my daughter to eat fruit and veg that when she ate some carrot today I text my MIL in delight! 😂
