Veterinary dispensing error

My dog has been so sick lately.....£5000 vet bill in 2 weeks. Thankfully he's insured. We have been going to the vet 2 or 3 times a week. He had to stay in for a week initially.

He has become very fearful of the vet and difficult to get blood from. So the vet prescribed some sedatives to take one the night before a vet visit and another on the morning of the visit. Last night I was giving him his medication, his steroids and a tablet to help his blood clot clopidogrel.

I then opened the pill bottle with the sedatives labelled as gapapentin and took out a tablet, when I noticed that it is absolutely identical to the clopidogrel tablet which is the tablet that helps his blood clot. Same shape, size, colour and letters printed on it.

So I didn't give him the "gapapentin" as if it is a blood clotting tablet I would have been giving him a double dose and then another one this morning, so 3 tablets when he only takes one a day. I don't know what that would do.

I know mistakes can happen but am I being unreasonable to be really angry about this. He's only a small dog and is already very very sick

I'd definitely take both bottles to the vets and get them to double check + clarify if there has been an error on that one (which sounds like there has been!). Once you've got confirmation that there's been an error then they can deal with that - I don't think it's unreasonable to be angry (and also probably a bit scared what would have happened if you didn't notice!) but there's definitely ways of expressing it that are more productive - like asking the vets what precautions are in place to stop this, how did it happen, are they fixing it etc.
