i find the Papillion style dogs so old fashioned

As long as a fit and healthy dog who is a great example of the breed wins then I couldn’t care who wins.

It's about how well the dog conforms to the standard for its breed, not which breeds are better than others.

quite pleased it was a whippet that won

I'm pleased that a whippet won, too. I had the most wonderful one, and still miss her.

I’m always annoyed when a Wire Haired Foxy doesn’t get in the final, but the Jack was amazingly cute. Glad a whippet won (but mine is better. 😌) DH gets annoyed at the proliferation of “made up” (to him) dogs and the fine line between one variation of a breed and another. He is more amusing to watch than the dogs.

I think the Whippet was a safe choice, breeding hasn't been ruined the dogs like so many others.

The whippet was stunning.
We've got a black miniature schnauzer so would have liked that to win but it had an odd rear leg movement so I'm not surprised it didn't.
I thought the jack Russell was gorgeous and the Tibetan.

Frankly devastated that the Schnauzer didn't win! 😡

I'll take an old fashioned dog over some of the current monstrosities being bred!
I was very glad there were no brachycephalics in the final. All the dogs were lovely examples of their breed.
I was rooting for little Ana the JRT though, that face 😍

@HelenWheels I thought the Jack Russell was the winner too but the handler massively cocked up, broke the rules, with how she lifted the dog off the table (using it's tail). 😢You can see clearly on YouTube. I think the judge was told they couldn't give the dog any awards after that and rightly so.

How can a dog be old fashioned?

The Australian sheepdog is the one I would want to take home.

I always feel so sorry for the dogs, put into that horrendous noisy atmosphere show after show, poked and prodded and clean beyond words. It seems so cruel and unnecessary. I've got 2 spaniels and they just wouldn't cope in that environment at all, they're happy when muddy and smelly and near stagnant water. It'd take me a week to get them show clean and probably involve a jet wash

A good friend of mine is a vet. Every year she is hoping a proper dog wins BIS rather that one of the ghastly brachycephalic breeds which can’t breathe properly or the chronically lame breeds with endemic hip dysplasia or the breeds which are notorious for temperament problems or the ones which can’t see properly because of inbred eye problems or the ones with chronic skin problems because of exaggerated skin folds or the breeds which are incapable of giving birth naturally or…. You get the idea.

She was very happy indeed that the nice, sound, sensible whippet won this year. The JRT would also have gone down very well with her.

Just looked up the winner. The other one that didn't win is really adorable, probably a factor.

I'd love a Labrador to win.

I did think the Tibetan Mastif was looking at the whippet like it was a tasty treat
