To take 16yo DD to see Katherine Ryan on International Women Day

I have tickets to see Katherine tomorrow night. I bought them over a year ago and I was so excited to take DD, 16. DD is quite young and innocent for her age (genuinely doesn’t know what certain words mean, asks me to explain things if they come up in a film or lyrics etc). DH has convinced me that she’s too young. He is taking the ticket to come to the show, which is fine we will have a great night. But I was looking forward to showing DD a glimpse of the adult world, especially as Katherine addresses complex topics with refreshing honesty and insight.
At the same time, I don’t want to have to explain to DD what ‘pegging’ is on the way home.
Have you seen the show on tour?
AIBU to want to take 16yo DD to the show?

I'm sure most if the show will not be about pegging

I’ve seen this show (if it’s the ‘Battleaxe’ show) and she does discuss sex quite a lot. In the second half of the show, she goes through messages that the audience have sent during the interval, so who knows what will be covered? But it’ll be fine for a 16 year old. You should take your daughter!

I saw her a few years ago with my mum (other end of the age scale) and found it really tiresome and boring. Huge airbrushed picture and going in about her wonderful child. Group of women would not shut up and get shouting out.

KR is great. My daughter and I saw her when DD was 18. I don't remember anything too out there coming up.

Zippidydoodah · 07/03/2025 17:40

If she’s very naive, maybe she needs exposing to some more adult themes in a very safe place, ie with her mum! She’ll be going to college in September!

LittleMonks11 · 07/03/2025 17:42

What does DD want to do?

Phase2 · 07/03/2025 17:43

Oh to answer your question I think 16 is fine. Someone took a 14 year old to Lee Nelson which was a bit weird.

Ohdeardearme · 07/03/2025 20:21

Well I wouldn't want to go and see her or take my dd to see her given her racist "jokes" and comments in the past.
She should have stuck to her career at Hooters as far as I'm concerned.

Maddy70 · 07/03/2025 20:23

I would go with my 16 yr old

SquishyGloopyBum · 07/03/2025 21:37

Tell your H that the ticket isn't for him.

My 16yo dd and I went to see battleaxe a few weeks ago. It was very funny and we had a wonderful time together. It's a woman's show and was a lovely bond for me and dd , the first "grown up" thing we've done together now that she's growing up. I think you should take your dd not dh

Does your DD want to go? If so take her.
