Sorry to post here, posting for traffic…

Can I give a second dose ibuprofen liquid after 4 hours? To a 9 year old. On the box it says doses should be given every 6-8 hours but then says leave at least 4 hours between does which is contradictory. She won’t need any further doses tomorrow so I’m not worried about going over the doses per 24hr period.

can anyone help please?🙏

I wouldn't. If youre confident she wont need it tomorrow, then she probable can do withiut it now. Give something with paracetamol instead if you have that.

My 5 year old was in A&E with tonsillitis over Christmas. The advice I was given was ibuprofen every 6 hours and then stagger the calpol (2hrs after ibuprofen) so the pain relief crosses over and lasts a bit longer.

Thanks both! I managed to get her to 5.5 hours & had to give it! She was literally screaming the house down! She’d already had calpol!

What is wrong with her? Has she has some medical attention?

dementedpixie · 07/03/2025 07:20

Yes its fine as long as you don't exceed the number of doses in 24 hours.

How can be so bad she's screaming with pain, but you're confident she won't need any more today?

Because I think it was possibly worms & from her bum & right up was sore & as predicted all fine today after working tab!

No she hasn’t, it’s happened before when she was 4 & it was worms! All sorted now thanks

Why would you give ibuprofen for worms?
