Expected to attend a very poorly organised meeting every day

New in a role that I'm finding is very poorly organised. When I had my interview they mentioned there would be a daily 5 minute briefing, which sounded perfectly reasonable.

Ive since realised that the briefing has no set time, location, or agenda. They vaguely mentioned a time but nobody seems to stick to it, there's no fixed location, you're expected to just walk around and find people.

No set agenda, it's basically just 5 minutes to bitch and moan about customers. Some days it hasn't happened or can't happen if some of us are still in meetings.

Today the manager casually mentioned how the rest of them like to have a bit of a moan at the end of the day but how I 'don't really seem to be like that.'

Tbh I've been once and had nothing to contribute, probably as I'm new and I've got better things to do than to go walking around looking for people and hoping everyone will be in the same place at the same time.

If it were a fixed time and location of course I'd attend, but it never is. What should I do? It's ridiculous.

Forget about it?

Mum2jenny · 06/03/2025 21:07

Just ignore it

lostintherainyday · 06/03/2025 21:09

It’s literally 5 minutes? Suck it up!

Oftenaddled · 06/03/2025 21:12

Well, if it is that hard to locate could you not just say you seem to keep missing it, is there any way of knowing when it happens from day to day?

Changingplace · 06/03/2025 21:15

I’d ignore it not go and if anyone complains say you have no idea where/when it’s taking place so unless it’s organised properly it’s impossible to construct take part.

I would if it were a bit better organised and was at one time and in one location!

Also it can be anything from 5 minutes to longer. If it were a proper team meeting with an agenda then of course I'd attend if it were scheduled, but tbh I'd rather just get on with my work than stand around hitching for 5 minutes.
