Help! I've broken the toilet lid in a hotel!

I've managed to break the lid of the toilet of the hotel I'm staying in. Anyone done anything like this and how much will I be charged? I'm too scared to ask them.
My hotel stay is paid for by work so they may charge the work card.
I could probably pay up to £75 but I don't get paid till next week. Argh!!
Anyone done anything similar?

Bit depressing the number of posters saying ‘I’d act like I was nearly injured’. It sounds like the OP was honest, and I admire that.
Whether or not the hotel should have charged is another matter.

YANBU toilet seats should be able to take the weight of an average person. I wouldn't have paid for a new one - sounded like it was ready to crack any time.

I'm really surprised they charged you. I'd speak to them again and ask for my money back. Maybe send them an email when you are home and tell them that you didn't want to deal with it at the time but that you dont think you should have been made to pay.
Unless you were being reckless and jumping on the loo seat then it wasn't your fault.

What about guests who are very overweight?

It should be able to take the weight of a very overweight person unless the Hotel are going to ban them.

Isn't the lid that broke? You don't need to sit on that

Some modern toilet seats are terrible quality. The one that came with our toilet was so flimsy we immediately replaced it with a proper wooden one so sturdy you could dance a can-can on it. The other one would have cracked if you say on the lid, no doubt.

sat

Some people do sit on the closed lids, even though modern ones often aren't designed for it. Old wooden ones used to have furry covers for this purpose.
