To think Netflix isn't worth it anymore?

Getupandgogo · 06/03/2025 14:05

It's really gone down hill. Hardly any new content and mostly old shows or shows with subtitles (which is fine but not as the majority of offers).

Anyone else cancelling?

Having spent £40 for two cinema tickets to see the new Bridget Jones ... I now don't think £17.99 a month for netflix is that bad.

Is that how much it is?! Ours is €7.99

TheKeatingFive · 06/03/2025 20:20

Black Doves was very good and I've just seen there's a new series of Kleo (I loved the first one).

There's always 'just enough' to keep me there. I guess that's a skill in itself.

Jc2001 · 06/03/2025 20:21

I was bearly watching it and then they announced the price hike so I've cancelled it now. Same with Disney. I think all the streaming services are running very low on content now and everything is spread too thin.

Strangely I've really got into YouTube after a free premium trial. I'll probably keep that. Lots of amazing content on there. I've been watching that more than anything else.

What do you watch on it?

What do you watch on it?

Outdoor boys is really good. Lots of wild camping type / outdoorsy type stuff. Into motorbikes so channels related to touring and reviews. There is so much content and really high quality. There's a lot of crap of course but the algorithms soon sort that out depending on what you watch.

For me it's worth the money for the premium. I'd struggle to go back to the ads. Plus you get you tube music as well, which is comparable to Spotify so that's also makes it worth the money for me.

I really didn't think I'd keep premium beyond the trial but I'm hooked.

I cancelled it once but my DDs go on there so much watching endless repeats of Friends and Brooklyn 91 or whatever it’s called and they were so bereft, I relented.Grin

Watched Zero Day and Apple Cider Vinegar recently and the new thing Adolescence with Stephen Graham starts today I think, so that’s well worth the rob dog prices.Confused

Apple TV far superior IMHO.

Once I got to the stage of only watching Friends and Big Bang Theory I cancelled Netflix (have already posted about this above) and bought second hand BBT DVDs from an online second hand shop and someone was giving away the entire series of Friends in exchange for chocolate on a facebook group so that's how I got them.
I bought a cheap external DVD drive for my laptop and it works fine and the whole lot ended up being cheaper than 3 months of Netflix.

Yes that shocked me too. Mine is €8.99
Bridget Jones tickets were €9.50 each for a showing in English at my local cinema.

Starlight7080 · 07/03/2025 13:36

Does seem to mostly be a lot of crime documentaries or reality tv.
Or cheap shows/films no one has ever seen or heard of. That obviously don't cost netflix much or anything to show.
Then when they do get something you like they cancel it 😒

I don’t know how anyone finds the time for it! I use bbc I player, itvx and the channel 4 streaming platform. There’s so much on those 3 I have loads waiting to be watched.

I was going to say this, got sky sports, sky movies and it's enough along with the I player etc. I love radio too.

Katkincake · 07/03/2025 14:11

once the last season of stranger things is done then I’m cancelling or may cancel now and then rejoin for a bit when all episodes are out. We’re currently finishing up Yellowstone but the next season of that is on Paramount (we’re about to get new phone contracts with 3 so will get it free 6m).

We’ve just cancelled Prime. Disney is getting dull now so may ditch that. Apple TV is the one we’ll stick with.

Just realised how many channels we’ve been paying for, which is ridiculous - don’t really watch terrestrial TV but maybe we need to check it out again, there must be more than crime dramas, awful comedies and soaps?

FlatWhite78 · 07/03/2025 14:14

YANBU - I’ve never understood the hype with Netflix to be honest, it’s definitely not worth the money

WaltzingWaters · 07/03/2025 14:16

I always just have one streaming service at a time, and then switch once I’ve seen everything I want to.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 07/03/2025 14:17

I have moved to the ads version of both Disney plus and Netflix. They aren't intrusive at all.

We also have Spotify premium which my DD's would never want to give up so this was the compromise to cut costs.

Kbroughton · 06/03/2025 14:37

I still like it. I just watched Toxic Town and Graveyard and now I am watching Running point which is pretty funny.

I'm watching Graveyard too and it's got me hooked.

crumpleduppieceofpaper · 07/03/2025 14:19

I pay £5.99 a month - less than 2 coffees. There's definitely enough on there for me to watch at that price! I think it's a bargain.

Where do you live? An afternoon showing of BJ here (West Wales) was £5 each local cinema.

valder · 07/03/2025 14:22

I had the bells and whistles Netflix package and suddenly realised that I don't watch it on the TV and don't need to download onto several different devices either.
So just last week, in a moment of clarity I changed to the basic package. I really only download onto phone for travelling/stuck in airports etc. and watch bits on my tablet in bed. Saved about 15 quid a month or something like that. I do have Amazon Prime for purchases, and otherwise only use it for photo storage lol. Haven't watched anything on it. Want to keep it for other reasons. Sorry if you detest Amazon....

I rotate which ones I watch, recently just took netflix out again for £4.99 a month with ads (there aren't a lot of ads) but I'll probably keep it as DP is now nlwatching WWE on there! I always have prime and rotate Disney

What is WWE?

I can only assume you don't have brothers or sons Grin

steff13 · 07/03/2025 18:08

I agree. I used to pay for it, then my cell phone company offered it for free with my package so I signed up through them, and I haven't even looked at it in a couple months. I'd cancel if it wasn't free

IMO, Apple TV is the best streaming service. So many good shows, no commercials, and only $10/month here.

eyeI · 07/03/2025 18:15

I'm thinking of cancelling it because of their stupid changes. If you had a licence for one TV/one user, you used to be able to move between two places and leave it signed it. Now you can't do that even if you are only using one TV at one time. It signs you out and either you have to re-sign in as 'travelling' or do this ridiculous thing that sounds like it's out of the dark ages - which is to start watching something on a mobile device in the first location. Who has the time for all this faff? So I think I'm going to cancel it because IT IS SO ANNOYING. There is zero need for this change.

I'm not kidding btw - this is what their site says and I have contacted them to see if we can deal with this by having two locations stored on the account and they say no - this is the only way. This is what their site says:

Second home or frequent travel to the same location

If you have a second home or travel frequently to the same location, follow these steps:

From the main place you watch Netflix, connect to the internet, open the Netflix app from a mobile device or go to Netflix.com from a computer once a month, and stream a TV show or movie for a few seconds to establish a connection.

Then take the same steps when you arrive at your second location to continue watching Netflix without interruption.

who the actual f**k has the time or inclination to deal with this idiocy?

Using Netflix outside of your home

Here’s how to use Netflix when on the go or traveling.

eyeI · 07/03/2025 18:17

when I say 'signed out' I mean not just logging back in with a saved password but having to re-register the device on a computer with a new code - the whole 9 yard faff which if you don't have a computer or mobile device that you can do this on and are moving regularly is a total waste of time.

Some places only have very expensive Cineworld cinemas, we have and it costs at least £15 to see a film. Cineworld are different prices in different areas. Vue cinemas are much cheaper and cost about £6.99 to see a lot of films

AmusedRoseCrow · 07/03/2025 18:25

Yes! We realised we hadn’t watched anything on it for months so I cancelled it in the new year. Haven’t missed it once!
