How do you deal with a scatty manager in a new job?

I’ve started a new job and my manager is all over the place - forgetting things, giving mixed instructions, and generally making it hard to settle in. I want to be patient but it’s frustrating when I feel like I’m chasing clarity all the time.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Any tips on managing upwards without seeing difficult?

In my job i would -
book in for a regular 1:1 every week (I know not every job will do this)
Write an 'agenda' for the 1:1 (probably a one liner on what you want to discuss)
Project calm during the meeting
Email afterwards confirming any actions and decisions
Be the most reliable member of her team
Steer clear of any optional extra projects involving her

NEVER EVER EVER get involved with any conversations moaning about her

Oh the other thing I've done is get a secondment to another team half the week so that I'm not 100% associated with her in the company (and I also get a break from the situation)
