Accident forms at nurseries

My DS stumbled over himself today at nursery and has a big graze on his nose.
nothing serious. When I picked him up the nursery worker greeted me with the accident form which I was happy to sign. I checked him over and could see he was happy and not bothered. I didn’t get a copy of the form as I didn’t have my phone on me or anything and was in a rush at pick up.

Later when my DH got home he asked to see the accident form which I said I hadn’t got a copy of but can easily get one tomorrow if needed. He went mad because he is saying how neglectful and slap dash that was to not get a copy of the form. I kept saying there’s a copy at nursery if we want it we can get it. He thinks as far as he’s concerned there
is no form or evidence. I think he’s paranoid that if we ever went to A&E SS would pick him up. I thought that was an over reaction. However I do appreciate we do need to keep track of these things in case a repeated problem was happening at nursery. We are more than happy with our nursery btw, they are very caring etc.

AIBU and slap dash or is DH over reacting?

He's being really OTT. I used to bin the copies I got as soon as we got home.

Your OH is going to be one of ‘those’ parents!

RobinHeartella · 04/03/2025 20:20

He is being unreasonable and he'll understand when he's signed the 100th one of those things.

He is being OTT.
I work in early years and we only offer a copy of the accident form for a head injury. I'm sure the nursery will photocopy it for you tomorrow.

No drama and no need for him to be ride to you.

Accidents happen most days. Today we had 6 accident forms to get signed by parents. Only one parent took a copy.

Comewhatmay25 · 04/03/2025 20:22

OTT

Tallyrand · 04/03/2025 20:23

I've signed loads of these over the years.

It's just so the nursery are covered and so you are aware in case your child shows any symptoms later.

Total over reaction from your H.

pambeesleyhalpert · 04/03/2025 20:24

I've never even thought about having my own copy....

TheRossie123 · 04/03/2025 20:24

That’s what I thought. He’s totally anal!

DazzyRascale · 04/03/2025 20:25

Controlling, rather than anal I'd say

Groundhogday2025 · 04/03/2025 20:34

He’s welcome to do all the nursery pick ups so he can do it properly given that he knows best….
Also never heard of SS removing a child for one incident of a grazed nose…. Pretty sure if they were to even investigate they would go directly to the nursery for copies of any incident reports.
He needs to chill out.

Oh good, me neither! I didn't know that was a thing.

TheRossie123 · 04/03/2025 20:44

Annoyingly any of the pickups he has done over the last year or so, he has signed the forms and filed them. So this is what he is comparing to and why I have been “neglectful” in his opinion. Our boys generally don’t have many accidents at nursery so this doesn’t happen much.
it’s hilarious, we have a docs appointment tomorrow and he actually thinks he’s going to get Spanish Inquisition for a 2 year old falling over himself. He does need a chill pill.

He files them
.

where does he file them and why?

children have accidents every day. We have a child whose parents laugh at pick up because their child is so clumsy and have an accident for most days.

Dinosweetpea · 04/03/2025 22:39

So OTT, mine go straight in the bin, but I only take them if I have to 🤣

He saves them in our joint Dropbox/ Google drive with all the kids/house stuff- where he saves everything. He’s saves them ‘just in case’ he needs to make reference to them, for example if something big happened at the nursery, it’s so he has evidence to reference.

He’s a bit OCD about paperwork-everything has a place.

He.was very unreasonable to "go mad" and call you "neglectful" so when he's calmed down I'd speak him about ways to speak to each other. If he has obsessive tendencies it's likely anxiety driving his response but it's still not ok to talk to you like that, and that type of language and responses is not going to lead to marital harmony. Getting copies of paperwork is usually an easily resolvable issue so not something that he needs to get anxious and angry about. And even if it wasn't, getting angry and anxious isn't going to magically up the "missing" paperwork.

Having said all that his habit of filing all paperwork and therefore knowing where everything is has its benefits and may well come in very handy one day. So in your shoes I'd try to support his paperwork habit while asserting that the anger and language over this isn't OK.

stichguru · 04/03/2025 23:15

You husband is massively over reacting. It will be fine.

littleluncheon · 04/03/2025 23:18

Very weird, I'm a childminder and always keep the accident forms unless a parent asks for a copy (no one has ever asked for a copy).
