To give children pancakes for breakfast?

goodgodthereyouare · 04/03/2025 14:09

DC including step children had pancakes for breakfast.

Their mum who doesn’t usually have them weekdays had planned in advance to pick them up and have them until after dinner.

She is now arguing that they shouldn’t have had pancakes and sugar before school and pissed off that they’ve already had them which apparently means there’s no point in her having them after school now.

My DC will be having having pancakes again this evening.

Was it unreasonable to give SC pancakes for breakfast?

YANBU

It amazes me how people have so much energy for being uptight about finding joy in life.

Yanbu!

Pancakes for breakfast and dinner and pudding in this house.

Especially if you're left doing all the normal weekday mornings- they're generally pretty boring she shouldn't be annoyed you've done one fun one.

TakeMe2Insanity · 04/03/2025 14:14

I presume she normally argues over little things?

BodenCardiganNot · 04/03/2025 14:14

I presume there is a reason that she doesn't have them on weekdays...
I'd ignore her.

Funderthighs · 04/03/2025 14:15

You did a nice thing for them. She should be pleased.

WoahThreeAces · 04/03/2025 14:15

Pancakes are supposed to be for breakfast! I find it odd having them at a different time of day (but wouldn't ever think it a problem if someone did, obviously!)

TheAmusedQuail · 04/03/2025 14:17

She's flippin' lucky someone is cooking from scratch for her children! Or maybe she's jealous that she didn't get any.

My son had pancakes for breakfast this morning too. With chocolate spread. I said what I said!

Daisypod · 04/03/2025 14:17

We had them for breakfast and for dinner will be having savoury pancakes and sweet ones for dessert. It's one of my kids favourite days of the year 😂
She's batshit

It amazes me how people have so much energy to make pancakes for breakfast before school / work!!! we barely have enough time for a quick bowl of crappy cereal. Massive kudos to OP.

plus I love the idea of Pancake Day now meaning pancakes for every meal of the day. Brilliant!!!!

Snorlaxo · 04/03/2025 14:19

Yanbu

Some years my kids had pancakes 3 times a day and loved it. She could vary the type of pancake if she wanted to feel “special” eg American style, fruit rather than lemon and sugar etc

TipsyBlueOtter · 04/03/2025 14:21

Not only did we have pancakes for breakfast and are planning them again tonight, I also sent mine in with a ham and cheese pancake for lunch instead of a sandwich.

BigFatLiar · 04/03/2025 14:22

Ooh I want pancakes. With ice cream and strawberry syrup or chocolate syrup or maple syrup or all three.

Have to confess that we did only have microwave pancakes Blush

God she'd be horrified by our pancakeageddon tradition. Pancakes for every meal. Today I'm making pancake tacos for dinner.

Tell her to pull the stick out of her bum.

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 04/03/2025 14:22

oh good god I couldn't be arsed to even get into an argument about this.

JoyousEagle · 04/03/2025 14:24

Their mum who doesn’t usually have them weekdays had planned in advance to pick them up and have them until after dinner.

So you normally do all the weekday stuff with the children, and she arranged to have them on a day where she could do the fun stuff, and now that she's not the only one doing the fun stuff, she's got the hump?

Disney mum, maybe?

Oh we won’t!
Just said I’m sure they will have made room for more pancakes
Unfortunately looks like we're picking them up now though

How did she even know what they had for breakfast if you dropped them off at school? Surely she's not messaging them to ask?

Stepfordian · 04/03/2025 14:32

We had scotch pancakes for breakfast and we’ll have crepes after dinner, for variety! She sounds a bit bonkers tbh.

876543A · 04/03/2025 14:33

Most mornings are pancake day in our house, its one of the few things my DD will eat in the morning! Embrace it. They have eggs in. Protein - all good!

ShortColdandGrey · 04/03/2025 14:35

It is shrove Tuesday the day you have pancakes for breakfast(if you are organised enough in the morning) dinner, and tea if you are lucky 😋Tell her to unclench.

Hankunamatata · 04/03/2025 14:38

Mine often have pancakes for breakfast. We buy Scottish style ones from Tesco so you can chuck them in toaster. Bit of honey and some fruit makes easy quick breakfast

Hdjdb42 · 04/03/2025 14:38

Sounds like she thought you'd ruined their "pancake" time later?! How odd. Personally I would have thanked you for it, and made more later! Kids never say no to pancakes in this house!

Hankunamatata · 04/03/2025 14:39

Is she the type who has no chocolate or biscuits in the house?

roseymoira · 04/03/2025 14:43

She isn't annoyed about sugar before school, she's bothered because she planned pancakes for after school and feels her treat is ruined.

Why she thinks kids won't enjoy double pancakes today is beyond me
