To give children pancakes for breakfast?

DC including step children had pancakes for breakfast.

Their mum who doesn’t usually have them weekdays had planned in advance to pick them up and have them until after dinner.

She is now arguing that they shouldn’t have had pancakes and sugar before school and pissed off that they’ve already had them which apparently means there’s no point in her having them after school now.

My DC will be having having pancakes again this evening.

Was it unreasonable to give SC pancakes for breakfast?

YANBU

My DC had pancakes for breakfast, pancakes for snack when they came home from school and are excitedly looking forward to them for after dinner too!
Children love pancakes on pancake day, you can never have too many.

My DD has autism, and is food selective. She has pancakes every morning.

Eggs from our own hens, plain flour, organic milk. And then squeezed lemon and sugar.

It's basically health food as far as I'm concerned. It's the only decent food she will eat 😭

If I was your SC mum I'd be grateful that they'd had fun and food before school 🙄

Justsayit123 · 04/03/2025 18:13

Not an issue at all! Let kids be kids and have fun! Probably better to have pancakes than some cereals!

PeloMom · 04/03/2025 18:17

Agree! I throw in a banana in the batter for fibre and sweetness. Takes less than 10 mins

Of course YANBU..

But wait- did I read that correctly? She's now refusing to have her kids after school today because they've already had pancakes?? Wow...

stayathomer · 04/03/2025 18:27

I came over here because I’ve gotten lazy and was thinking of using the batter tomorrow instead and was going to tell you yabu. You’ve made me feel guilty so now I’ll get back to them for today 😅

My grandsons managed pancakes three times today as part of a balanced diet. One day of relaxing the rules so be it.

Kindyeah · 04/03/2025 18:37

You can only eat pancakes once a year so of course they need to be every meal.

CandyCane457 · 04/03/2025 18:52

Oh god she sounds annoying, why would you be so bothered? It’s one day! It’s literally pancake day!!!! I just don’t have the headspace to imagine being annoyed over that. It’s a special treat for them. Don’t worry about it OP and enjoy your pancakes for dinner!

My dc loved pancakes for breakfast with maple syrup, fruit, yogurt.
Then savoury pancakes filled with stirfry for dinner, followed by pancakes with sugar and lemon juice.
It is called pancake day!

It's Pancake Day.

No one should really be eating anything that's not a pancake 🥞.

Just tell her you gave the kids the choice of pancakes or air, and they chose pancakes. It's their fault really.

adorablecat · 04/03/2025 19:11

Tell her it's Pancake Day and whatever your personal feelings, she can't expect you to break the law.

Jollyjoy · 04/03/2025 19:16

So she doesn't want to see them because they've had pancakes already? Am I understanding that right?

It’s pancake day… pancakes. All day. She’s batshit.

I've been doing pancake day wrong all these years! We only have them in the evening. Will make a note for next year that we can have them for all meals! Grin

The religious roots means the pancake would be the last meal - finishing up food before Lent fasting.
