Hi. Have never used Airbnb before but was trying to book accommodation for us to visit our son and his family in Spain. I thought I had paid for it with my card but it is now asking for hoot ide and details from a government I’d like driving licence etc. Is this normal? I am so worried it was a scam. Meanwhile there is no trace of my booking. Is this normal. Should I be worried.

I don’t know what hoot ide is but yes, it’s normal as renters are verified just like hosts.

In many countries the accommodation providers are required by the law to register all foreigners they are putting up and Airbnb is no exception to that.

However, it doesn't say anything about your specific booking

Yes, I've had to do that the last few times I've rented apartments in Spain.

mitogoshigg · 03/03/2025 21:08

Yes new Spanish rules are you need to provide to a of info

Christwosheds · 03/03/2025 21:14

Yes I had to give passport details , this was for the UK and a few years ago.

Spain changed their law in 2024 that all hotels, guest houses etc had to have contact details, passport info for all guest. We use hotels a lot so I have some business cards (from an old business) with our names/address and an email address.

Perfectly standard

You should have a record of the booking on your account accessed via the App or website OP
