To think they should have said we need a World Book Day costume?

No good deed goes unpunished!

I stupidly volunteered to help with a reading event at DC school, not registering it was for World Book Day.

I've just had a message and now they are suggesting we could dress up to make it 'more fun'.

I have no time to make an outfit. I'm going to have to go as someone wearing my own clothes, but AIBU to think this is OTT?!

Absolutely!

But if you get stuck, there's some free or cheap and quick ideas here www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/national/uk-today/24969132.easy-world-book-day-outfits-can-make-5-minutes/

Just messaged back and say you can't organise costume but if they've got any hats or something you could use going spare then fantastic.

I’d say that I’m still happy to help but I’m afraid I won’t be wearing fancy dress. Say you are happy to drop out if they really want 3veryone dressed up. They won’t. I’m a retired teacher and I always refused to wear fanc6 dress for school events.

Thanks for this. I might see what I can make very quickly from there. Miss Trunchbull looks good!

Agreed. I hate it too. Why can't we just live books, without dressing up? Half the kids are in football strip or disney dress-up anyway.

Read this book, you'll be fine wearing your own clothes.

Only joking....never knew these existed until recently...talk about laugh out load in the book shop.

As @cardibach said, just reply that you are happy to help with the reading, or with the event, but won't be wearing fancy dress - that you are happy to drop out if that's an issue. (It won't be).

I came across a great 'character' for those who won't or can't dress up - wear normal clothes and you're a muggle.
