Need some help re car tax please

I've had my car clamped by dvla as being untaxed

I got a letter though saying that I had until April to pay the fine and tax it

And I had until the 17th March to pay a reduced fine and tax it, which is what I was going to do, as very low on funds

It's been clamped this morning

Does anyone know the process as I thought i had until the 17th to pay

Distressed here 🥺

Edit, the direct debit payment failed, it's been a difficult month financially but this is insane

Maybe pay the fine then sorn the car if you can't afford the tax?

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/03/2025 08:37

You misunderstand the letter. It states you need to tax it (or SORN it) IMMEDIATELY.

It’s only the reduced fine that you have until 17 March to pay.

FrannyScraps · 03/03/2025 08:37

Are you still driving it/ parking it on public roads? That would be why!

SwingLifeAway · 03/03/2025 08:38

Yep, that list isn’t options - you have to follow all three instructions and you haven’t followed the first one, hence the clamp.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 03/03/2025 08:39

Okay I agree that I've misunderstood it

Ffs

So I'm on hold to the dvla

Should I hang up and call the enforcement people first and pay £100 to release the clamp, or wait and talk to the dvla?

Well if it was on the road, untaxed, it will be clamped. And clamped again until you pay the tax.
The letter says you have to pay the tax immediately. The deadline is for the fine.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/03/2025 08:43

You will have to tax it, then pay for the clamp to be removed.

so sorry, it’s going to cost you even more in the long run.

btw @mumofoneAlonebutokay your registration plate is shown in the letter which is obviously very identifying. You might want to ask for the thread to be removed. xx

Noodlewave · 03/03/2025 08:46

The tax ran out on 31st Dec, you've done well to get away with it for this long
