Belfast/Bangor Mums - AIBU to ask for your help? I need to send a baby gift!

I'm a Brit living in the US. DH has family living near Belfast.

His cousin has just had a baby and we want to send a gift.
The M&S website is being terrible and won't process the payment - no details on why. IDK if it's because they can't send the gift to NI, or if it's our cards etc. We've used our (UK bank) cards with M&S for deliveries to mainland UK before.

Anyway - now I'm trying to find another retail store to send a baby gift to DH's cousin.

Recommendations? We have UK credit cards so payment shouldn't be a problem. It doesn't have to be fancy, gift wrapped, etc. We just want to send some nice baby clothes or something simple like that. It's just to let DH's cousin know that we're thinking of her & her new bundle of joy. Postage from the US is over $50 even for just a lightweight package, so it's cheaper to order direct.

Most places in the UK should be fine. They have M&S here but John Lewis delivers here too. Also Next, Amazon etc - not sure why M&S isn’t working!

We have M&S in Ni including large stores in Belfast so really surprised it's an issue. Are you looking to send an M&S present direct to the cousin?

Wolfhat · 02/03/2025 14:25

Could also recommend some great local places if you let us know what sort of present you're hoping for?

Thanks, everyone.
I'd forgotten about Next - I used to like their things.

I'm trying to avoid Amazon these days, although I do have a UK Amazon account for Christmas shopping, so I will go to them as a last resort.

John Lewis is also a good shout.

I know that the family practically live at M&S, but we cannot get their website to work at all - we spent over an hour yesterday, and it just never processed the payment. DH has an account with them (again, for buying Christmas presents) and still couldn't get the payment to work.

A local shop would be even better, and I don't mind buying over the phone - I can call tomorrow if they have a website I can look at first. They're on the East side of Bangor if that helps.

I want to spend up to about 50 pounds.

Ideally - clothes for a baby girl. She's 2 weeks old but I don't know her weight, so I'll get age 3 - 6 months.
I'd also like to get some sweet snacks for DH's cousin - I think it was a rough birth.

That's all the info I have about the baby& mum - there was a huge family fall out a few years ago. We live so far away that we weren't involved, but we didn't even know the cousin was expecting. We don't know if there's a Dad around, or even if the cousin is living in her own place or back with parents for now! Anyway, it's important to send something - not just because it's what you do when someone has a baby, but also because DH's mother is ignoring this, and we're clearly sending the message that we are still happy to stay in touch with the extended family.

Hi all, I understand how tricky it can be to choose the perfect baby gift! Sometimes, something simple but thoughtful like a personalized item or a nicely arranged gift basket can really make a difference. It’s always nice to find something unique that shows you’ve put some thought into it. Hope this helps anyone else looking for ideas!

I think M& S is still struggling after the cyber attack, Next is a good call because if it doesn't suit they will be able to return it in person without any hassle.

FifiandPheli · 19/07/2025 18:10

I think the M&S have been rather unreliable in their NI delivery’s since their cyber attack, but try My First Years - really nicer personalised gifts they definitely deliver to NI and they gift wrap in a nice box too

Something from Boden or JoJo Mama Bebe might be nice.
