How can I find my high school English literature teacher?

She was an amazing teacher, cared about every single student and went above and beyond, she even called me at home to help me with an essay.

She was beautiful, inside and out. She was my sunshine during a very difficulty time, and of course instilled a love of literature, she made Shakespeare come alive and took us to the theatre, in the summer she would take the whole class to a famous ice cream restaurant.

She was so pure and good. She left just before the end of my school year, very sudden, no fanfare. She had gotten engaged and was moving to Norfolk I think. It’s very likely she took her husband’s surname after marriage.

I have searched for her on the social media over the years, never found her.
She would be around 57, I just want to know she’s well and thriving, and of course to thank her and let her know what I achieved - I think she would very much enjoy that and get a kick out of it.

Can anyone suggest how to find someone like that?

Are there any Facebook groups for past students if your school? Sometimes people on those know what happened to teachers after they left. Or the teachers are on there themselves.

She might be still teaching, look on the websites of schools in Norfolk and stalk the staff section :-)

I found a couple but not many members from our year and no one posts or reads anything on there for years now. No one I have asked knows anything more than the little I know.

Have you googled "[first name] English teacher Norfolk"?

cardibach · 01/03/2025 22:41

I’m a retired English teacher and I’d be happy to be found in those circumstances, if it helps. It’s hard to know how to do it though.

I think I have been on this board for too long. I see a post like this, and think what if the OP is a stalker… the paranoia has got to me.

This is brilliant, I will do this, thank you!

She was only 27 when she left, incredibly smart and resourceful, and very attractive, I believe she was probably to spirited and adventurous to do the same job after all these years. Ms Garrett was so dedicated to her job and so good at it, but it’s a very difficult job.

I’m half hoping she’s reading this! x

Not a very good one it appears! 😂

If I was going to stalk her, I would have done it when she was close at hand I was a 16 year old and bursting with teen angst and immature dreams.

I was in contact with a teacher through a facebook group and was able to thank her for giving me a love for the subject she taught and led to the career which I have enjoyed and will be reluctant to leave.

It’s so special to encounter that sort of excellence lighting up something that may have been dull and dreary and difficult to get through.
