To ask how much you'd spend on a hotel?

I'm happy with a Premier Inn tbh. For a treat (maybe twice a year at most) I'd spend up to £100, and that might be something with a spa or definitely with breakfast included.
I've just seen that a friend of mine spent £750 on a night's stay at a top rated hotel with a Michelin Starred restaurant.
I'm sure it was very nice, but £750!! I could go to New York for that price.
Obviously it'll depend on income and leftover money, but just curious to see.

I’ve spent a lot more than your friend, tbh. But also book Premier inns if I’m on the way somewhere. So depends upon the occasion.

Planejane34 · 01/03/2025 15:49

It's each to their own, I know. I just think I'd rather have a week's holiday for the same price or put the money to some home renovations than one night in a very fancy hotel.

I generally try and stick under £100 a night. That being said I do a lot of work travel and stay in pretty nice hotels ~ so I'm being slowly won over to the perks of nicer hotels but not to the point of actually parting with money just yet!

Iamallowedtodisagreewithyou · 01/03/2025 15:50

I can't get insurance to travel abroad anymore due to health reasons so i'm probably gonna step up from staying in premier inns to something a bit more luxerious and pricey but only because i have to stay in UK

Teenagerantruns · 01/03/2025 15:53

I like a premier inn. However have paid £250 for a night before at a nicer hotel for special occasions or if they were contiveniant to theatre or resuarant save hassle of cabs.

AuntieMarys · 01/03/2025 15:56

I've paid well over £100 for a Premier inn in London!! I've paid £400 a night for New York

TeaRoseTallulah · 01/03/2025 15:57

Last few times I've looked I've been pushed to find Premier Inn under £100,the prices have shot up!

Mumsntfan1 · 01/03/2025 15:58

Depends on where I'm going. Sometimes even a Premier Inn or similar can be over 100GBP. But I would rather spend money on more trips or things to do than the accomodation.

Didimum · 01/03/2025 15:58

Depends what the purpose is. Somewhere to lay my head, up to £100. On holiday or an occasion night/weekend away, £300ish a night probably my limit.

AgnesX · 01/03/2025 15:58

It depends on where and why. Nice hotels are a treat. PR is functional.

MananaMananaPenelope · 01/03/2025 15:59

I really enjoy luxury hotels and as I’m usually travelling with young adult DCs prefer us to have a suite to share. Tend to spend a lot tbh.

Weepixie · 01/03/2025 16:02

I’ve paid 420 pounds a night in a Premier Inn in London during high season.

valder · 01/03/2025 16:03

I could afford top end if I wanted it, but I don't like to spend my money on what is essentially a bed, a shower and a hairdryer! I mean unless you're on honeymoon, who spends all day in the hotel room!

So I go for the middle somewhere and max 150-200 a night. My main criteria are breakfast included and must be within walking distance of something other than a bloody golf course in the grounds or spa! I really hate being out in the sticks with little else to do apart from driving somewhere miles away or sitting around a hotel eating high priced food.

But everyone has their own needs and wants. You can probably tell that I don't do beach/sun holidays.

loropianalover · 01/03/2025 16:08

The price isn’t the first factor for me really, I’d happily pay to be in a good location in a reputable hotel. We also like a spacious room with a separate living room or dressing area so they’re more expensive. Also same for large balcony and a view.

Unless it was for something special or some exceptional hotel, I’d probably consider anything up to €600 a night and anything above that I’d check to see if there were cheaper options first.

PoppyBaxter · 01/03/2025 16:10

We normally spend about £80-100 per night, which I think these days often only gets you a dead average room, and possibly no breakfast.

We once spent £450 for one night in a very special hotel in Japan, but it was an absolute one off.

DancingLions · 01/03/2025 16:12

Once paid £500 for ex and I to stay at the top of the shard for one night, but it was for his birthday and he really wanted to stay there. Although as he's now an ex, I wasted my money 😂

When I go on holiday, I always go for the cheapest hotel possible as I only use it to sleep in. Although it has to be a hotel, with my own bathroom etc. Wouldn't stay in hostels and the like.

I might spend more if I'm only somewhere for one night. Maybe because it's a special occasion or when I had an overnight stopover on long haul, I paid more to be right by the airport. That kind of thing.

Moveoverdarlin · 01/03/2025 16:12

Can’t remember a time in the last ten years where I’ve seen a hotel for less than £100 a night.

BeTwinklyKhakiPanda · 01/03/2025 16:16

Very rarely more than £100 though normally on my own so sometimes have singles if they're available. I am spending £150 per night for a spa (B&B - dinner will be extra) in a couple of weeks, but that's about as far as I ever go.

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/03/2025 16:17

Love a PI. Love a swanky hotel 🤷‍♀️

WellsAndThistles · 01/03/2025 16:19

I only sleep in the hotel so anything better than Premier Inn is a waste for me. No interest in booking a hotel to stay indoors and use the facilities.

Sirzy · 01/03/2025 16:20

It depends on where I am going and why. Sometimes if the hotel is just a base then I will happily book a premier inn type place. Other times the hotel is a key part of things so I will pay more. Last month we went away and I paid £290 for a night for me and DS. It’s much more than I normally would be the hotel was something special for the trip.

itsgettingweird · 01/03/2025 16:23

I'm paying £200 a night for a holiday inn Express B and B in Stratford over Easter for 6 nights.

I'd much rather more for the money but it costs what it costs and we need to be near aquatics centre and somewhere wheelchair accessible for DS - and the travelodge next door isn't any cheaper!

coldcallerbaiter · 01/03/2025 16:28

I tend to go for 300-400 per night per room, abroad and UK, sometimes less. I can afford more but I tend to get good places for that.

Cynic17 · 01/03/2025 16:30

It depends on the hotel. I certainly wouldn't spend £750 on a Premier Inn but I have done on Claridge's - and it was absolutely worth every penny.

Silvers11 · 01/03/2025 16:34

Most of our overnight stays are for one night while we are travelling, for example, or to go for a particular event - say a theatre or concert show. Premier Inns are always my first go to because they are cheaper than some and you know what to expect and the beds are comfortable. They are not generally less that £100 a night - and more by the time you add breakfast in. The prices also vary as they use dynamic pricing and tend to rise the nearer you get to the date of the booking. The earlier you book, the better chance you have of getting a really good price.

However I would probably spend up to £250 or possibly £300 for a special occasion. In fact we stay in a lovely 4* hotel at Christmas - this coming year a room for 2 will cost £470 per night - but that is a very special occasion!!
