To ask how much you'd spend on a hotel?

I'm happy with a Premier Inn tbh. For a treat (maybe twice a year at most) I'd spend up to £100, and that might be something with a spa or definitely with breakfast included.
I've just seen that a friend of mine spent £750 on a night's stay at a top rated hotel with a Michelin Starred restaurant.
I'm sure it was very nice, but £750!! I could go to New York for that price.
Obviously it'll depend on income and leftover money, but just curious to see.

Depends where you're staying and what day/ time of year a Premier inn is often more than £100. I've paid on average £140 a night for Manchester city centre.

I'd pay up to £300 for a special night.

Natsku · 01/03/2025 17:43

Hard pressed to find a hotel for under 100 euros a night where I am but I wouldn't pay more than 200e unless it was for something very very special.

QueSyrahSyrah · 01/03/2025 17:45

I don't mind a Premier Inn if it's a city break or visiting nearby family and we're going to be out of the room all day.

For a special occasion we'll spend more but probably not as much as your friend. The hotel we spent 2 nights at over our wedding was £450 a night for the Penthouse as I recall. That's about as high as I'd go and it wouldn't be a regular thing.

mondaytosunday · 01/03/2025 18:02

Not sure about your premier inn but stayed in one in November for two nights it was over £300 including breakfast.
If it was just a bed needed for a night (wedding, a night before an early flight, etc) then I'd hope to spend as little as possible. If it's a mini break holiday then I'd want something decent so willing to spend a few hundred.
My DH did take me to a fabulous out of this world amazing place which must have cost about £3k/night for my 40th.

Planejane34 · 01/03/2025 18:05

I'm in the North West, definitely didn't take into account dynamic pricing. Premier inns can be £300 if there's a concert on in town, but yeah I can quite often see them or Travelodges for £30-50 a night. On Christmas Day I got a travelodge for £25.

I take home 2k a month and live alone, I'm not really in a position to be spending hundreds a night on hotels tbh.

I usually stay at the Hilton - it’s functional and good if you have children with you. We have a trip coming up which centres around my 5 year old dd and I booked the Hilton.

tartyflette · 28/08/2025 11:53

We have two nights booked at the Shangri-La hotel at the Shard next month for a very special occasion, cost is £1,700. But that does include breakfast, on both days...
If we wanted to upgrade to a 'City view' room of the river it would be 2k. But we are very happy with views to the south over Kent, Surrey etc.
I'm looking forward very much to swimming in the pool on the 20-somethingth floor of the hotel. Love a fancy hotel.

tartyflette · 28/08/2025 11:57

I'm not keen on Premier Inns since I stayed in one in central London two or three yesrs ago.
I was in bed and put my hand down on the floor by the bedside table to pick up my specs which had fallen off and came up with a mass of long black hairs....

CeeJay81 · 28/08/2025 11:58

I'd never spent more than £300 a night. It just wouldn't be worth it, no matter how nice the hotel was. I'm low income though, so maybe if I won the lottery I'd have a different mind set lol.

Goditsmemargaret · 28/08/2025 12:00

I spent 800 on two nights in Paris last month but it was part of the holiday if that makes sense. We are going to a party next month and I chose a hotel that costs 80 for the night. I have stayed there before and it is very basic - I wouldn't eat there if you paid me - but the location is great (plus well equipped gym) and we will barely be in it.

Parksinyork · 28/08/2025 12:04

It’s rare to get a PI for less than £100

incognitomouse · 28/08/2025 12:04

I travel a lot for work, it's hard to get a Premier Inn in London under £200 in recent months. Anywhere between £200-300 is reasonable to me. I'd go more for a special occasion.

FrenchandSaunders · 28/08/2025 12:07

London hotels are insane now. I book a lot for work and it's a struggle to find one for less than £200 a night, unless it's a dirty travelodge.

Penfoldfive · 28/08/2025 12:08

I think £100 is fairly cheap these days - I tried to save on a London trip recently, and stayed somewhere cheaper than Premier Inn to keep it to around £100 and it was really grim.

Even some of the nicer travelodges are £200 now.

I am in Ireland and the majority of hotels are crazy prices. £150 min for a very basic hotel rooms midweek in non- tourist areas. Much more for Dublin and tourist areas. Many hotels now have moved their check in times so it is now check in at 4pm and check out at 11am as well. I have given up taking short breaks away in Ireland due to Hotel costs over the last couple of years.

And there’s your answer OP. You can’t afford it but others can. I’ll happily stay PI but have also paid much much more. And the memory of the expensive ones are tucked away under fab times. If you can afford it you likely have the expensive hotel AND the holiday AND the renovations.

MellowPinkDeer · 28/08/2025 12:17

Special occasion about £500 per night. Generally between £150 and £200

LindorDoubleChoc · 28/08/2025 12:24

I'd go very high end if I could afford it. I love hotels! I'd love to stay somewhere like the Savoy for a week.

I'd rather spend money on hotels, travel, theatre and music, food and drink than cars, clothes, bags, houses, private education, expensive hobbies, plastic surgery etc.

dizzydizzydizzy · 28/08/2025 12:26

I have a friend who is constantly whining at me because I keep going on holiday abroad and she hardly ever goes away and virtually never abroad.

It doesn't how many times I tell her that I am spending less on a week in Italy (say) than she is spending on a long weekend in the Cotswolds because she stays in super-luxury 5star+ places and quite literally bumps into celebrities frequently, whereas I buy the cheapest flights, only take hand luggage and stay in basic accommodation because all I am doing is sleeping and showering there. Unless of course the accommodation is the entertainment (for example I sometimes go in a Pilates course abroad) in which case I will pay more.

In the UK, I usually stay in Premier Inn and hope to pay well under £100 for night.

Howmanycatsistoomany · 28/08/2025 12:28

Not often. We spent almost £400 last year for one night at a 5-star hotel in St Peter Port to meet up with friends; hotel was their choice). I stayed in some of the best hotels on work trips back in the days when pharma companies could spend ££££ on hotels for congresses and meetings, and yes, some were fabulous but I'm just as happy with a spotless, cheap-as-chips, 2-star place DH and I have stayed at for years in Spain. As long as I have a comfy bed and a decent shower, I'm happy.

WitchesofPainswick · 28/08/2025 12:29

The problem is that you CAN'T get a NICE week's holiday for £750 these days.

Sometimes I think us older folks (assuming this about the OP!) have forgotten about inflation...

VivienneDelacroix · 28/08/2025 12:31

I've just stayed in a £1000 per night hotel, and it was absolutely more than worth it. However, the night before that I stayed in a £100 hotel, and am currently at a £500 per night hotel for the week.
There are different reasons for staying in different types of hotel, but I try not to stay anywhere that I end up thinking I'd rather be at home.

TheSwarm · 28/08/2025 12:36

It's all relative, isn't it? If you can afford to drop £1k on a hotel room, then you probably aren't really concerned about money in general.

Most normal folk are not spending that on a hotel room per night though. I've stayed in some absolute shitshows in my time, but accepted that because it was only for 1 night and it was literally just a bed I wanted without spending very much money.

CanOfMangoTango · 28/08/2025 12:38

Next week I'm staying in a £33 per night Travelodge. It's just me, so i don't need much. If all you need is a bed and a shower it's perfectly adequate.

If I'm going for a weekend away I will pick somewhere nicer but a basic standard hotel is about £100 now regardless of when or where you need it.

When I used to travel for work I stayed in Village hotels a lot as their on site pool & gym gave me something to do in the evening.
