They battered the crab?!

Went out last night and ordered crab sushi with mango. I was so excited for it. It arrived and the crab was battered!!!!

Everyone raves about this restaurant, but it was basically batter sushi. I could only find microscopic bits of crab in eight pieces.

AIBU to think this is a crime against humanity? Not lighthearted.

Hmm...breaded crab claws are nice but that sounds a bit weird

Depends on what you ordered. I regularly see tempura sushi options.

I’d never order tempura anything. It just said crab, mango and fish roe maki.

I had battered crab on a brioche roll in our local pub. It was next level. BUT there was as a lot of crab and I hadn't actually ordered sushi.

Sounds like going to an Italian restaurant and being served spaghetti hoops.

Tempura and sushi are two different things.
I'd expect them to be appropriately described on the menu.

Do you have any pictures? I've had tempura battered soft shell crab in a Japanese place. Not my favourite but it's clear what it's going to be when ordering so I wasn't expecting it to be sushi.

Was it soft shell crab? They are almost always battered/fried. It's common in Asia and I've always like it.

Of course they are different things, but many types of sushi are made with tempura crab/prawn/ veg. It’s like saying fish and sushi are different things, sure but many times the former is part of the latter.
