Would you judge this in someone’s house?

I’m currently re-decorating parts of my house. I’ve come across a website that sells prints for the walls and I’ve found some I really like;

This house is full of love, laughter, and a little bit of what the fuck.

Pardon the mess, I decided not to give a shit today.

If you’re happy and you know it, it’s your meds!

As you can probably tell, our house is already a little bit eccentric with its decor… but would you judge someone for having prints like that on the wall with children living in the house or am I just overthinking it? 😅

I just read your second comment, you have kids but not children ever visit your home. Thats a bit odd!

Yes I'd judge you. Sorry, very tacky.

It’s not really. My child has autism and struggles in the company of other children. None of my friends have children, and my child goes to school on the bus so parents don’t really know each other at the SEN school.

You never have other kids in the house?!

I hear what you're saying about the tongue in cheek aspect of the meds one so fair enough. At first I read it a bit as one of those 'adventure before dementia' stickers on camper vans which I detest.

TemporaryPosition · 28/02/2025 13:55

I judge everything, it's not my taste, but I don't want to live in a world where everything is the same

missmollygreen · 28/02/2025 13:56

That is not eccentric, just tacky

ClairDeLaLune · 28/02/2025 13:57

Yes

Oh God I hate that. Dementia is really not funny.

IfYouLook · 28/02/2025 13:59

Hugely tacky and not even amusing. I’d judge but I’m sure you’d judge my house for being boring. C’est la vie.

LadyRoughDiamond · 28/02/2025 14:01

I wouldn’t judge you for the swearing. I absolutely would judge you for the naffness.

If you need to outwardly declare that you’re mad/crazy/batty/unique, you’re probably not.

Wow, I didn’t expect so many responses!

I’m not ‘trying’ to be eccentric at all, I just have very different tastes! For example, I have quite a lot of tapestries on the walls in the house and on the ceilings, quite unique patterns too - mushrooms with eyes etc - because I like them and they make my house feel like a home to me.

I also have quite unique prints in my house already - my dog dressed up in military uniform, old paintings of Victorian people wearing balloon hats - again, because I like them.

We are a household where we say what we think and don’t really hold back, so it doesn’t bother me having swear prints on the walls. In terms of other children, no other children come into the house so that’s not an issue. I’m not “being mean to people with mental health issues” either as I have plenty of them myself and quite like the tongue in cheek aspect of quotes like that.

It doesn't come across as being mean to people with mental health issues to me. It comes across as trivialising depression and not understanding severe depression - which is way beyond not feeling happy and antidepressants do not make people "happy". You like it, fair enough. If I saw that in someone's house I would immediately decide that I didn't feel I could speak about my own mental illness (not that I do on first meetings anyway!). My children would also likely be made uncomfortable by it. But ultimately your house, your choice. That's just my answer to your question about whether or not I'd judge.

DisforDarkChocolate · 28/02/2025 14:03

Unless you're selling I'd have no thoughts unless I was there with my children.

If you put it up for sale they will limit your market because people will find it harder to imagine the house as theirs.

Crikeyalmighty · 28/02/2025 14:03

I've got some lovely Alice in wonderland prints in my downstairs loo that say things from Alice in wonderland prints- like

Have I gone mad ? - yes you are totally bonkers, but I will let you into a secret, all the best people are

I wouldn't put them
In the lounge though - people always comment and ask where I got them from ( Etsy)

Onlycoffee · 28/02/2025 14:07

What are you asking exactly - if you'll be judged or id they're inappropriate?
Either way, I would have thought someone who likes quotes like that doesn't need to ask mn!

MerryOliveFinch · 28/02/2025 14:08

Yes, naff. Those wall quotes have practically become a meme at this point. They are like the modern version of the toilet humour signs that were popular in the 80s.

Lourdes12 · 28/02/2025 14:09

In terms of decor they are just awful, cheap looking and tacky. Get some proper art prints or leave your walls blank

ArtTheClown · 28/02/2025 14:09

I wouldn't find those eccentric but I would find them really cringey and cliché. However, it's your house so as long as you like them and they bring you joy, that's what matters.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 28/02/2025 14:10

Yeah, i might lose a little bit of respect for you, OP.

LastHeraldMage · 28/02/2025 14:11

So if you like them, why are you asking?

I don't like them - but its not my house

HideousKinky · 28/02/2025 14:13

I can't get past decor that features mushrooms with eyes....

This is the crux of it for me, too. I have a lot of unique art and have made a lot of unique design choices, as an artist myself. I generally think anything with words/slogans is instantly a bit tacky and unnecessary. Especially if it references the house itself, “it’s not clean but we’re all tired here! Haha!” “We’re different in this house, we don’t think swearing is bad.”

It’s like you’re trying hard to prove something the second someone walks in. Just let the room speak for itself.

TheIceBear · 28/02/2025 14:15

Don’t find them remotely funny. I wouldn’t judge if someone had it in their house I would just think how tacky but then again I’m sure some of the things in my house wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste either.

Coolasfeck · 28/02/2025 14:15

Are you also middle aged and dress like an 80s kids TV presenter - dungarees, colourful hair, and big glasses ‘I’m mad me!’ style?

OneWaryCat · 28/02/2025 14:17

You do you. But personally I'd think you were a 'basic bitch'.
