And I mean of any kind. Be it a day with nature or visiting a historical site/museum.

I have family visiting for basically all of Summer and a getting a weird anxiety my itinerary is basic.

We are based in a home county but are more than happy to travel/book accommodation.

I personally can’t think of anything more wonderful than a coastal walk on a sunny day to Mutton Cove to watch the Seals or a day at Blenheim

Any children?

My kids when I could extract them from their rooms loved:

Leeds Castle
Hever Castle
Dover Castle
Broadstairs
Herne Bay
Hastings
Eltham Palace
Chartwell

I still like them all too.

Where to start! Expensive but brilliant options:

Hampton Court Palace (so much to see and do and children’s audio guide available),
HMS Victory and the Mary Rose,
Tower of London,
Windsor Castle,
Greenwich (park, Painted Hall, Cutty Sark, Queen’s House, maritime museum, Royal Observatory) then take the river boat back to central London on the Thames,
most National Trust and English Heritage properties inc Stonehenge and the many castles,
Gardens: Great Dixter, Hidcote, Wisley, Heligan, Sissinghurst (loads all over the country),
country parks eg Moors Valley in Hampshire,
beaches: Norfolk, Devon, Dorset (inc Purbeck), Cornwall, Northumberland, Pembrokeshire
Cities such as York, Bath, Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh also Stratford upon Avon,
steam trains eg Bluebell line,
theme parks eg Paulton’s Park for younger children and Alton Towers for older ones,
Museums: great museums in Liverpool, to say nothing of Natural History Museum, Science Museum, British Museum
theatres in the west end and around the country.

The world is your oyster!

Agree Blenheim is my absolute fave. There are the concerts in summer as well.

Also -

  • Cheltenham for a wander and then The Ivy there is beautiful
-seaside day - tacky or posh! Barry Island is a bloody great beach and loads of amazing places to stay near by and restaurants.
  • Manchester City centre with the Cube and National Football Museum
  • Chatsworth
  • Beaulieu
  • Go over to Isle of Wight
  • Cadbury world
  • West Midlands Safari Park
  • Dartmouth - with steam train

Also: the Roman Baths in Bath!

And Jorvik Centre in York.

Maybe worth joining the National Trust as there are bound to be lots of properties to visit in your area. My favourites in the South are Mottisfont and Chartwell.

Padstow Mayday
The London Museums
Edinburgh Fringe
York Viking Festival
Lincoln Steam Punk Festival
The World Science Fiction Convention (when it comes to the UK, every 5 ish years)
