TMI WARNING ⚠️

I’ve been coughing non stop for the last 3-4 days. Looks like I have mucus in my chest, that rattles when I cough, but lungs are clear, so they won’t give me antibiotics.

it’s been so bad, that once every few hours, I’m forcing myself to throw up so I can get some mucus out. I get relief for a hour or so, then coughing starts again.

My son brought home cookies from Tesco and I ate a couple of them. Fully expecting the cough to get worse, but who resists cookies!!

to my surprise, the cough stopped. WTF !!? I felt so much better, I got up and made dinner, cleaned the kitchen. annoyingly DH and DS selfishly ate the rest of the cookies. We don’t live near a Tesco, so can’t quickly pop out to get them.

when I Google, every single site seems to recommend staying away from sugar when you have colds and coughs. What’s with those cookies then? Magical !!?

It's the distraction.
I have an awful cough at the moment and when eating something my brain sees as a treat, my cough stops.

It's a bit like a fright stopping hiccups maybe.

I don't think it's the cookies themselves, more the action of eating something enjoyable

Distraction? For the whole hour?

This regime and ita really helped:
Guanfacine cough syrup - loads brands make a version
Pseudoephedrine tablets (usually called decongestant tablet)
Salt nasal rinse - I use Neilmed
Lozengers
Lots hot ginger and lemon tea

Cough syrup has helped most with mucus as it thins it and nasal rinse gers rid of it

How can throwing up clear mucus from the chest?

good point, I don’t know but it’s somehow ending up in my stomach / throat.

I've got it too, it's been peak nasty green phlegm day today.

Yesterday I ate a whole packet of Maryland cookies and a share bag of galaxy minstrel to myself with 4 cups of sugary tea.

As far as I'm concerned we do whatever we need to get through it.
