Thermostat is set to 20 degrees. It’s showing as on (in orange) for the last hour and the radiators are all still stone cold. It eventually seems to reach the required temperature after a few hours. There is no air in the radiators and it was even serviced last month. The boiler is only a year old. What is going on? Very worried as have a small baby.

check the water pressure on the boiler maybe? If that’s low and needs topping up it doesn’t heat rads properly.

@IUnderstandTheWeird thanks, what does that look like? I don’t know anything about boilers or how to fix it. Would this be an issue though if it was services only recently?

Is it on but the temp is already 20 so doesn't need to fire up iyswim? That's what my boiler does so it will only fire up if it drops enough.

Maybe it's coming on after a few hours as the temp goes down. @Neetbelp maybe test it by upping the required temp see if it kicks in.

Ok, have you checked your room thermostat, mine is currently above 20 degrees so the heating hasn't kicked in this pm (definitely warmed up outside!). Next check the pressure on your boiler, the exact pressure depends on brand and model but it's a common reason for heating not working and easily rectified by re pressurising it, google the instructions for your boiler model if you don't know how but takes seconds.

Otherwise I'm not sure

@Trytowin20 no it’s showing 15 degrees at the moment

If you have thermostatic valves on your rads try turning one or 2 of them all the way off, and see if that kicks the heating on. So you'll be telling those rads not to heat up, and all the others to work as normal. This will give the system a little nudge, as I understand it. Give it 10mins then if the rads are getting hot you can turn the other 2 back on.

IUnderstandTheWeird · 26/02/2025 17:36

Google your boiler make and model and it will show you how to check the water pressure but yes, it could drop, or they may not have topped it up after service.

supercalifragilistic123 · 26/02/2025 17:36

I have a different system but changing the batteries in the thermostat and resetting the boiler have both helped when the heating isn't working.

I think you need to start calling a heating company, OP.
