To be so worried I gave my child this dummy?

Whilst on a walk we dropped a dummy in the mud at a country park last week and I just put it in the side compartment of our changing bag after wiping it on a muslin. We were at a restaurant today and he was crying and it was the only one I had. I had fed and changed him, he just needed to sleep. I fished this dummy out of the changing bag, saw it had specks of dirt on it, gave it a thorough wipe with a Milton wipe and then gave it to DS who is 4 months. The Milton wipes specifically say on the packet that they can be used to sterilise dummies.

I am really worried that he has ingested any germs and could become sick or worse. I think it was only mud but what if it was animal poo or something? It might sound silly but I am dwelling really heavily on it. I know I wiped it but usually I would give it a wash first or properly sterilise, I just forgot on this occasion but I wish I’d not given him a dummy at all and just fed him again or something. I have postnatal anxiety so worrying is not unusual for me but I cannot rationalise this one the way I usually would. I am convinced he will be poorly as a result of this. I feel terrible!

He will be totally fine, you cleaned it with Milton. Don't give it another thought

But you did sterilise it, with a milton wipe. Honestly, it will be fine. Soon he'll be playing in the dirt and drinking swimming pool water. Small bits of dirt are actually good for the developing immune system too

This is your anxiety talking. You cleaned it with a sterilising wipe! It’s fine!

Please don’t worry, @dirtydummy - he will be fine. If anything, it will boost his immune system.

All three of my boys had dummies, and with ds1, I was diligent about washing it and sterilising it whenever it got dropped. With ds2, if he dropped it, it got a good wash in hot, soapy water. With ds3, I licked it and gave it back. It is either a reflection of me becoming more relaxed and confident as a mother, or me becoming more slatternly - I will let MN judge! 😉😁

All three of them survived unscathed - even ds3.

He'll be fine, won't be long before he's licking door handles and drinking out the cat/dog/ferrets water bowl.

Another vote for - you sterilised it, he will be fine ❤️
