AIBU returning equipment?

Hi, I have handed my notice in at my current employment and booked a half day of annual leave to accommodate equipment return.

As part of my employment, I was issued equipment and my office where I need to drop off is 34 miles away, hence booking annual leave to be able to make the journey, hand over and do an exit check for equipment.

Currently, I’m expected to undertake a clinic which is 2-3 miles away from my office/drop off point for the first half of the morning, then make my way over to the office for equipment handover etc.

AIBU if I refuse to do the clinic as returning equipment is going to encroach on my annual leave time I booked?

Don't take the half day and be paid?

Handing back equipment should be part of your exit - no annual leave needed.

The drop off is work, surely? So why are you booking holiday for it?

I don’t get it? You are moaning that returning the equipment will encroach on your annual leave which you say you booked to return the equipment?

You don’t need to book annual leave to return equipment. Return it on your last afternoon or send it via courier.

Ask them to arrange a courier to come and get the equipment from you. Why would you use annual leave to travel to the office

You surely don’t have to use annual leave to drop equipment!

You either do that during work time or your work has to arrange a courier

I wouldn't use annual leave to return work equipment. Cancelled it and use that paid afternoon to return it.

did you need the afternoon off? If not, do that as work.

I don’t think I explained myself properly. I booked the annual leave so I could drop the equipment in the morning and have the afternoon free.

But now my manager is expecting me to do a clinic in the morning and drop equipment after which is going to encroach on my annual leave.

Ask your manager, or their designated staff member, to collect it from the clinic then.

I thought this too, so was slightly confused when she said to return it after the clinic

It feels like the clinic in the morning is part of your everyday role and a longstanding responsibility that you have to do?

In which case it needs to be done and if you're on AL in the afternoon then you'll not have time to return the equipment.

So do the return another day?

I can bring the equipment to the clinic & leave it there with a colleague or I can drop it off at the location but I won't be bringing the equipment to a clinic and subsequently carrying on to return the equipment. Which works for you of those options?"

I’m supposed to be temporary cover as I’m not very local but unfortunately the person who undertook it left.

With the location of drop off it’s kind of awkward to get to and ideally I wanted to wrap everything up on my last day.

If the day the clinic is on is actually your last day with this company, I'd consider phoning in sick. They can send a courier to collect the equipment from your home or you can drop it in to the nearest location that this business has at your leisure.
You're supposed to be covering for someone and they have you scheduled to be at a clinic on your last day?
They really are squeezing every last drop out of you aren't they??

Just say sorry I can't as I will be on leave starting at 12 I didn't book the full day specifically so I could return the equipment in the AM so it's either return it Am and miss the clinic, that wasn't scheduled when I booked the time off, or you arrange to collect it from clinic.

I'd just say I'm on annual leave in the afternoon, so I can either do the clinic, or return equipment in the morning - which would you prefer me to do?

Yeah tends to be the way with the bigger companies in the industry I work. A few colleagues have experienced burnout or completely left the field altogether.
