To not want DP’s parents staying with us for three days

Hi all,

DP got their mum and mum’s partner tickets to see something in London on Saturday night and said they could stay with us. We live in an absolutely tiny one bedroom flat so they’d have to be on the sofa bed. DP thought they’d come down on Saturday and leave on Sunday. It transpires that they’re coming on Friday and leaving on Monday (apparently there are train issues on Monday.)

I really like DP’s parents but frankly neither of us want them in our tiny flat for four days and three nights. DP is thinking about paying to put them up in a hotel on the Friday to make the stay a bit more manageable. Are we being unreasonable?

No..sounds like a plan.

Just be honest and ask them to stay in a hotel for part of the week.

You should give up your bed for them though and go on the sofa bed. I think that's only right as they are older.

Book yourselves a nice hotel?

Completelyjo · 21/02/2025 19:27

If you have a sofa bed it sounds like a bit of an over the top reaction for a one off trip.

Your bf probably shouldn’t have bought them tickets to something in a city where they don’t live without including accommodation if it was a gift really.

(apparently there are train issues on Monday.

Why would they leave on the day where there are train issues-that's bizarre?!

Do they know you are in a one-bed place? That is too long a stay without a second bedroom.

If they can afford to stay elsewhere, they should
