Tell me my teens aren't the only ones lol

I am growing more and more gobsmacked with my teenagers common sense and I wanted to hear some other funny stories.

This week alone, son has toasted bread with butter already on it because he couldn't be bothered to wait and it smelt like the house was on fire.

Was feeling ill, so made him a Lemsip. He poured it (literally) straight into his mouth then screeched he didn't realise it was hot. He watched me make it from the kettle.

Today he is working with me over his college half term in the office for some extra cash. Blew his nose, then proceeded to try and open my free standing air conditioner fin part as he thought ' I had a fancy Japanese bin'

Please tell me I am not alone😂😂😂

Years ago, my 14 year old son, one evening decided to stick one of the little squishy plastic things that cover ear buds up his nose! Apparently you can hear the music better that way. Who knew??

He managed to do it on a Friday night at around 9:30pm up in his room & then came downstairs to tell us as he was scared.

After shining a torch up his nose & trying & failing to get it out, and also panicking he was going to inhale it & die 🤪 it dawned on us that we (his Dad & I) had both shared a bottle of wine with dinner (cough cough)

The taxi ride to & from the hospital cost us just over £100 (We live in Cornwall)

His Dad took him & was very happy to tell me, when he got home, all about the lovely curly red haired female Dr, at A&E who removed the plastic thing with very long tweezer things.!! The image of Nicole Kidman allegedly Smile

This was a long time ago before anyone moans at me about wasting NHS time!

My son is now 6ft 5 & holding down a very responsible job & people actually look up to him for guidance on things. Ha ha ha!!

As a result of this thread I've showed DS1 (15) how to make spaghetti bolognese. I figure it's time he learnt to cook properly. Apart from putting too much sugar in he didn't do too badly!

I was 6 or so and did same with a marble. Only God knows why ... and I'm guessing He decided to intervene because in the midst of panic I suddenly thought to close the clear nostril, take a deep breath and blow as hard as I could out the other. Out popped the marble. 😁

My friend's daughter used her hairdryer whilst sat in a bath full of water!!!!

Apparently she'd plugged it into an extension lead which she plugged into the hallway electric socket!

Perfectly normal to add a half teaspoon of sugar to the sauce. It takes away some of the acidity of the tomatoes,

Well, you learn something new..!

Traditionally, that's the purpose of the carrot in the soffrito.

I did the same thing with a Haliborange vitamin C tablet. I don't know why.

My eldest once stuck a spoon in the toaster to fish a bit of broken bread out (aged 13). I only just stopped him in time, just as he'd started putting it in.

When I asked why the hell he did it he was totally bewildered and said well of course he knew you should never put a knife in a toaster but he'd never heard anything about not putting a spoon in 🤦🏻‍♀️

See? all you naysayers who are criticising parenting: even if you think you've taught them everything you know they'll still find a way to be an idiot.

Biblically bleeding? Fair enough,Is your bush on fire? Lol
"Transformational power of god" genuinely sounds like it probably not gonna have time to cover ensuring equal measures for all re"common sense" or amusing anecdotes where it's clearly lacking. ...

@Dadyu am failing to comprehend how silly mishaps in family setting is contorted into religion and historic barbaric invasions

I was making beads from straws as a small child (just cut the straws up then string them) I put one up my nose.

Because it was hollow nose blowing didn't work so it was a trip to A and E.

We saw an Indian Dr who I don't think had been in the country long who easily pulled it out with long tweezers but was completely baffled as to why I'd done it, he asked my mum more than once, "Why did she do this thing?"

But I was about 5.

MNHQ if you are watching, can we somehow keep this thread for 10 years so those with younger children can come back when they are teens?

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 01/03/2025 13:22

Only yesterday I caught DS1 (15) putting the towel he'd just used after his shower back in the airing cupboard because 'that's what you do'. I've never told him this.

TickingAlongNicely · 01/03/2025 13:28

Last night my 13yo was telling me she was going to try to see the planet alignment, but was worried it would be too dark to see anything as it would be night.

She had a giggle at herself when she realised what she had said!

Buzyizzy21 · 02/03/2025 07:12

What are you lot doing wrong? Neither of mine EVER did anything as blatantly stupid as these comments. Clearly I brought up two sensible peeps.

Tonkie18 · 02/03/2025 07:25

This week my daughter put an already cooked naan bread in the microwave for 2 minutes to ‘soften it up’. Fire alarm blaring, microwave billowing black smoke and had to vacate the property. My kitchen has smoke damage and my microwave is ruined! Really looking forward to the boys hitting teenage years and having 3 of these things.

When I was a teenager I did 6 loads of washing. Was really proud of myself for getting off my ass.. couldn’t work out why the clothes weren’t clean. Mum asked how much soap powder I put in. How much I put in? I thought the machine dispensed it! Still stand by that being a brilliant time saver and no idea why Hotpoint and Samsung haven’t jumped all over the opportunity.

Asked my 13 year old to put the milk back in the fridge.....

Didn't think I needed to state that the lid would need to be put on first....

Found milk on its side on fridge shelf, sans lid, hours later.....

its a discussion thread, I'm discussing.

Perhaps, but you’re still derailing it. Spoiling the spirit of it. Kindly participate in another thread where you might be more welcome. Thank you.

At about 18 I remember my brother actually tried to weigh his head on the kitchen scales to see if it was heavier and had more brains than mine! 🙄

notsorighteousthesedays · 02/03/2025 13:37

But that's why you put the toaster on it's side! 😉

To throw you all, on my Siemens microwave it recommends a spoon be put in a container when heating up liquids.

Mine does too - meant to stop the liquid superheating and exploding in your face when your pour/stir it

We needed a new washing machine last year, and at least 1 of the ones we looked at does do this. Can't remember which - we quickly discounted it because it needed laundry liquid, which we don't use. It is an excellent idea, though.
