Tell me my teens aren't the only ones lol

I am growing more and more gobsmacked with my teenagers common sense and I wanted to hear some other funny stories.

This week alone, son has toasted bread with butter already on it because he couldn't be bothered to wait and it smelt like the house was on fire.

Was feeling ill, so made him a Lemsip. He poured it (literally) straight into his mouth then screeched he didn't realise it was hot. He watched me make it from the kettle.

Today he is working with me over his college half term in the office for some extra cash. Blew his nose, then proceeded to try and open my free standing air conditioner fin part as he thought ' I had a fancy Japanese bin'

Please tell me I am not alone😂😂😂

The teens heating milk in the kettle surely need to save up for a velvetiser.

The teens buttering bread before toasting it just need a couple of toaster bags, I get them in Home Bargains but I’m sure they’re readily available elsewhere.

DD - used a plastic tray in grill, instead of a baking tray to make her cheese on toast! The plastic tray completely melted into the grill pan. The house had that vile burning smell afterwards for a few days .

DD - and her friends claim they are environmentally conscious that's great. Went to a protest in our local area about the litter/ rubbish problem armed with placards . When I asked DD where here placard was afterwards, her answer was that she left it there, as did her friends.

you could not make it up!

It was years ago, I used to bring my class to London to the YHA hostel in the holidays and it was when they still had gas stoves. I was gob-smacked (as were my class) by a Japanese teenager, who turned the gas knob on and then went off in search of matches!!!!

any reason you've replied twice? I've really touched a nerve haven't I

All the perfect po-faced posters - off you fuck, this isn't the thread for you.

DS14 snapped a spindle on the bannister tonight. 'I didn't know you weren't supposed to swing on them'.

DS left for school one morning, completely oblivious to the fact that the electric switchboard next to the front door was on fire. Luckily DH and I noticed in time to intervene before there was serious damage. I questioned DS when he got home about how he'd managed to miss the hall full of smoke. He said he thought I was cooking bacon 🙄 We could have died!

Same DS complained about the "new shampoo" having bits in it. It was clearly labelled as body scrub.

Haha I was just about to post that mine had done this milk in the kettle for hot chocolate
I couldn't be cross as he had gone out and purchased me a new kettle for when I arrived home 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Result, you have raised an individual that puts efforts to right his wrongs. That's very sweet and all is forgiven😍

didnt say mine are perfect, i just find it odd to laugh about the fact youve imbued your 16-18 year olds with precisely zero problem solving skills to the point where they think they can boil milk and eat raw bacon.

As pp said, its likely because they've had everything done for them, but its really not funny.

Yes!

I also think these teens are the ‘TikTok generation’ that are so consumed with screens and social media that they genuinely have no idea how to cope in the real world.

I also saw on (I think it was ITV) news that some schools are running “telephone call anxiety classes” as teens these days have grown up with instant messaging/texting that they’re terrified of making phone calls and speaking to people via the telephone. Incredibly unequipped for independent life.

TagSplashMaverick · 23/02/2025 21:20

Teenagers are some of the most self-obsessed dumbasses ever to clutter up the earth.

lovemycbf · 23/02/2025 21:21

@Tricho erm who said 16-18 years old? I'm pretty sure the teenage years begin at 13!

ShinySquirrel · 23/02/2025 21:22

OP, I'm sorry this thread isn't going the way you intended. You are not alone!

couchparsnip · 23/02/2025 21:22

I was one of those judgemental parents. DS has amazing common sense and I took full credit.
He cooks, keeps his room tidy etc, an old head on young shoulders.

Then along came DD who insists she needs no help doing anything and then tries to boil noodles in the kettle or cook a cake at 220 degrees because it will go faster. 🤣. She has the same upbringing but just refuses to believe that anything I tell her is worth listening to! Not since she was about 10.

majority of examples shared are in this age range, in fact some of them are in their 20s!

BeGoldHedgehog · 23/02/2025 21:24

I think this is supposed to be a light hearted thread. Can we not derail it.

its a discussion thread, I'm discussing.

Hoppinggreen · 23/02/2025 21:25

19 year old DD poured Lemsip powder directly into her mouth, she didn't know you were supposed to make a drink with it.
She is really clever generally and is doing a science degree

blizymitzy · 23/02/2025 21:26

Our dd hoovered up spilt milk in the fridge with the Dyson cordless
Obviously killed it and it was quite new Angry

One of mine put milk IN the kettle to make hot chocolate? The house smelled of burnt milk for days 😡

Also left their key on the outside of the back door one or ten times.

Also also I've just cleaned the toaster and the crumb collecting things were very full of butter so I suspect one of them has been putting already buttered bread in there so @Srepmum1984 you are not alone!

To be fair it's kind of logical - a kettle boils water, I need boiling milk, why can't the kettle boil milk. You don't know how bad milk smells when it burns until you've done it - whether it be on a hob, in a microwave or in a kettle!! I'd judge your teen if they used a kettle to boil milk again though!

RuffledKestrel · 23/02/2025 21:27

As someone without kids but who works in a secondary school, these are all totally believable, eye opening and hysterical in equal measures 🤣
