Tell me my teens aren't the only ones lol

I am growing more and more gobsmacked with my teenagers common sense and I wanted to hear some other funny stories.

This week alone, son has toasted bread with butter already on it because he couldn't be bothered to wait and it smelt like the house was on fire.

Was feeling ill, so made him a Lemsip. He poured it (literally) straight into his mouth then screeched he didn't realise it was hot. He watched me make it from the kettle.

Today he is working with me over his college half term in the office for some extra cash. Blew his nose, then proceeded to try and open my free standing air conditioner fin part as he thought ' I had a fancy Japanese bin'

Please tell me I am not alone😂😂😂

My mum won't let me forget the time I rang her from uni, to ask how to cook peas

Rookie error, asking your parents, but in the pre-internet days sometimes you had to bite the bullet. I was in full time work though, so I asked trusted friends at work who probably pissed themselves laughing behind my back.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 26/02/2025 10:33

Once a colleague of mine's daughter called to speak to her mum. When I said she wasn't about she asked me if I knew how to cook rice!

jac67 · 26/02/2025 11:22

Year ago while living with us my teenage brother threw again all the frozen pizzas as he thought the herbs were mold.

Flozle · 26/02/2025 11:28

My step son, a genuinely intelligent and lovely boy, had to be talked through how to post a birthday card. From "write the address on the front" onwards. When instructed to buy a stamp, he was convinced that his dad was winding him up when he was told that any garage or kiosk in the supermarket would sell them.

You asked "Biblically the right environment", 'What are you taking about'? You could answer your own question for me. Compare the world today with the one when Europeans were first blessed with the knowledge of the Industrial Revolution, what's the difference? Do you think there's now a change after Europeans who used to commit to the Word of God and then went on to reject God to embrace Renaissance and Enlightenment? Why has UK which used to virtually control the whole world cannot now adequately care for the little island it occupies? Why has military and economic power been shifted from the West to the East (Russia, China, India, and most of Asia)? Why is it that Israel cannot stand on its own but leans on the West for it's survival? These changes, whether you believe it or not, are due to a transformational power of God when He also rejects those who reject Him.

Dadyu · 26/02/2025 14:25

Congratulations, caring mom, for the desire to go back to such old time basics, especially with a daughter who would one day become a mommy herself.

MySaxIsOnFire · 26/02/2025 14:28

The Renaissance, Enlightenment and Industrial Revolution are 3 totally different things, spread over around half a millennium.

He also rejects those who reject Him

Petty sod, isn't he?

Russia, China, India, and most of Asia

Should we tell Him they're even less Christian than the West?

I suggest you try spending time with some other books. You might learn something.

"Biblically the right environment"?

What are you talking about?

The Middle East in the year 0 presumably. Safely before the invention of the toaster.

tobee · 26/02/2025 14:46

The best way to learn anything is by personal experience. Not by being told what to do.

...and some of the parents you are so meanly criticising may also have good reasons for their lack of parenting skills?

Bellaboot · 26/02/2025 15:08

DS17 asked me yesterday whether he should put the marmite on the top or bottom slice of bread 😃

I hoped you told him he needed to ut it on the top on the left hand side and the bottom on the right hand side.

SinnerBoy · 26/02/2025 15:13

Ah, the Renaissance; which the Church tried to stop, by burning people.

If one is and knows they are lacking parenting skills why have children.
I didnt have them because i didnt want them and i knew i had no parenting skills and i new id struggle with helping with homework and school stuff etc.
I didnt want to be selfish and be that dumb mum that sees number 3 but says its number 8 but knows its 3.

Hellskitchen24 · 26/02/2025 15:20

I can’t remember what the context was, but we were away on holiday in the States when my then teenage sister said “we can’t do that, we’d look too much like terrorists”. She meant tourists.

Whatafustercluck · 26/02/2025 15:39

Dadyu · 25/02/2025 14:00

One good reason why teenagers may be without good manners could be that they did not learn those good behaviors from childhood either because their parents were keen on making more money and the children missed out in daycare. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). A 2-parent home is biblically the right environment to raise children. A mother is the greatest caretaker of the home; therefore, she should not be absent from the home until the kids are grown up. Everyone in the world, whether a genius or anyone making contributions, one way or the other, passed through a woman. Anyhow, a husband minded man should be the one chosen by a woman who is going to have children oar a child.

My eyes are bleeding.

Whatafustercluck · 26/02/2025 15:42

Then 13yo ds left the house to catch his bus and left it open. I don't just mean unlocked, I mean he left the front door wide open and simply walked off.

I'll take my chances, thanks.

Balloonhearts · 26/02/2025 15:54

Mine stuck his hand in the toaster once because it got stuck. While it was on. Didn't occur to him it was hot.

To be fair, I’ve done that 🤦‍♀️😂

BlumminFreezin · 26/02/2025 17:39

My eldest once stuck a spoon in the toaster to fish a bit of broken bread out (aged 13). I only just stopped him in time, just as he'd started putting it in.

When I asked why the hell he did it he was totally bewildered and said well of course he knew you should never put a knife in a toaster but he'd never heard anything about not putting a spoon in 🤦🏻‍♀️

UrsulasHerbBag · 26/02/2025 17:48

@BlumminFreezin my brother did this! He put the knife in and got a shock so big it launched him across the kitchen. He was a useless bugger and I just remember stepping over him and calling him a “thick knobhead”, whilst mum and dad had heart attacks. He survived and is a high achieving 50 year old now. There are many story’s of his idiocy over his teen years.

StuckHurtDone · 26/02/2025 20:16

For those who have ‘fuckwits’ for children/partners who put their buttered bread/toast In the toaster… may I suggest they keep doing this….. but turn the toaster on its side as they do it?! Butter stays on the bread/toast, and no butter residue/crumbs in the tray underneath….
ask me how I know this 🤣

When I was a student we used to make cinnamon toast like this. Butter the bread, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and toast with the toaster on its side.

😆
