To think this wasn’t right of my GP

Was feeling unwell so did NHS 111 online this morning. The result was to contact my GP surgery now. I did and they said it hasn’t come through yet from NHS 111. They said they’d put it through to the doctor and be in touch. At 2pm they rang back saying it’s still not through so the GP said they can’t speak to me. Aibu to think it wasn’t fair

Call 111 and let them know - this sounds like their fault as it usually comes through pretty quickly

I'm not sure you should need the referral as such. Would they not triage you themselves?

HallidayJones6779 · 19/02/2025 18:52

This happened to me once and I think - reading between the lines in my situation - the receptionist had made a mistake and hadn’t seen the request or something. Either way, call 111 again to explain and ask for out of hours of needed. To answer your question, I don’t think it was reasonable for your GP though. Surely they could’ve called you sooner to let you know to call 111 back before their 2pm deadline… or they could’ve just seen you without needing the 111 triage?!

It doesn't sound right?

Did you also let the person at the doctor's know that the actual problem was?

CuteEasterBunny · 19/02/2025 18:57

111 told me I needed a same day GP appointment but I couldn’t get passed the receptionist who wasn’t having any of it.

Thank you everyone. Yes I told the receptionist what the issue was. I don’t usually need a referral for an appointment. she said she was just passing on the GPS comment. Apparently the GP just said if I begin feeling really unwell then just go to the hospital

Situations like this explain why A&E is so busy!
Sorry I can't offer any wisdom, and that you haven't got anywhere!
