Fascism doesn't arrive in fancy dress...

Batmanisaplaceinturkey · 18/02/2025 10:36

"I sometimes fear that
people think that fascism arrives in fancy dress
worn by grotesques and monsters
as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis.

Fascism arrives as your friend.
It will restore your honour,
make you feel proud,
protect your house,
give you a job,
clean up the neighbourhood,
remind you of how great you once were,
clear out the venal and the corrupt,
remove anything you feel is unlike you...

It doesn't walk in saying,
"Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."

War is inevitable, as such so is conscription

The UK has been involved in several wars since WW2, but no conscription. So not inevitable.

A democracy does allow voters to vote how they wish.
To claim that they should only vote how you want, is not democratic.

I will leave it there.

I completely agree with you that it would be antidemocratic to say that voters should only vote as I want them to vote, and not as they see fit.

But as I haven't actually said this, or anything like it, I am not quite sure why you feel the need to keep making this point?

It's a shame that you weren't capable of understanding the point that I was actually making. Or perhaps you did understand it and you were just deliberately seeking to misrepresent it.

Either way, I agree that it's probably best at this point to leave it there.

You can say it many, many times. Keep making statements and embarrassing yourself. I'm enjoying it.

No please be my guest and keep embarrassing yourself by showing you did not understand the point the poster was making.
Perhaps the poets children’s books are more to your comprehension.

Yes I think we should agree to disagree and leave it there.

@PandoraSox if that's you thinking you know what's a certainty...

Well it's a bit of a weak leap. As I said if you have any certainty you will be in the minority.

'The give me a link' try isn't that effective when pretty much anyone worth listening to understands how difficult this is to map out.

Oh god.

The only certainty I have is that talk of conscription is scaremongering. You seem to be hoping it is not.

You implied European leaders had said there would be conscription in the UK. You have no links to back that up, so you are now starting to ramble a little in the hope no-one notices.

Who's we? Is the circus in town?

EasternStandard · 18/02/2025 15:34

@PandoraSox that's even more off than usual. No it's the last thing I want.

And yes oh god at it as a suggestion.

You suggest incorrect statements and then demand links.

For clarity. Labour posters who back Starmer due to loyalty concern me, there is no certainty in what is next, I am more aligned to other EU leaders on this than you and the pp

Anything else you infer is not there.

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 18/02/2025 15:30

Yes I think we should agree to disagree and leave it there.

Well, for the record, I am not agreeing to disagree. Indeed, it isn't really possible to disagree when you haven't actually engaged with the point I'm making at all. Agreeing to disagree would require some evidence of you having understood the point before rejecting it.

So for me, it is more a case of accepting that there is no value in continuing with a discussion where one person either can't or won't understand the key points being made. Whether that's because of a lack of basic comprehension or wilful misrepresentation of what I'm saying doesn't really matter. The end result is the same.

Who is ignoring rape gangs? Nobody. Another right wing piece of bull.

Ok, sorry, not ignoring. Covering up. For generations.

Yes rapists and their supporters covered it up. That included some police who saw the girls as "slags".

And his stance on not discussing the issue of immigration at high numbers whilst the country’s infrastructure crumbles.

Question it at all and you’re a racist.

Question the large scale ignoring of Pakistani rape gangs? Again, racist. He is doubling down on this rather than finding a way to solve the increasingly poor cross-cultural relationships in the country.

Honestly I’m a lefty at heart, but Starmer is doing more to make us a right wing country than Farage is!

Sure you are Grandpa. Not my fault I’ll vote for a racist, hypocritical toad like Farage, Starmer made me do it. Maybe read beyond the headlines.

JoyousGreyOrca · 18/02/2025 16:01

Do you only notice grooming gangs with Pakistani men involved? What about white grooming gangs?

Who said I’m voting for Farage?
He’s a complete opportunist and I’ll go so far as to agree with you on your opinions of him.

However I can see why ordinary people feeling desperate at the complete lack of representation may well decide to vote for him.

I used to be left to the point where I was dogmatic, was offended that anyone would vote Tory. I’m not entirely sure how that changed, but now I’d like to abolish all politics as they currently stand and start fresh. They’re all unfit for purpose in their own special ways.
