Stray Cat thread number 3

Well I've started two threads before about this stray cat I took in at the end of October. Was feeding him before that. Owners contacted multiple times. No interest in having him back. So I've dealt with my allergies, keeping him and the dog separate. It's worked out okay.

Now I don't know what to do about him when on holiday. There is nobody I know who can come to feed him.

Pet visits are ridiculous amounts. I don't have a cat flap so when he goes out, I don't know if he would be there to be let in for the second visit.

I've looked at a cattery at £12 a day which would be doable but at this point I don't have a microchip number, so I don't know about his vaccinations which the cattery needs. I don't want to contact the owners again. Last time they blanked me.

I have a solid brick shed. I am not sure if this would be suitable for him and then just have someone come feed him? Obviously I'd put a bed and straw in there for him.

How would I get the chip changed without having to contact them?

Bit of a mess really. Are there any other options I can look at?

Go to the vet, give them old owners contact details to confirm you have been given permission to keep the cat and change microchip details.

But you shouldn't be keeping a cat (especially one that you let outside) unless you vaccinate it.

Catteries will require all vaccinations to be updated.

You can't just keep a cat in a shed in the winter while you go on holiday.

If keeping him isn't for you, there's no shame in having a chat to Cats Protection.
There's a lot that goes into being a responsible cat owner and you sound like you care, but possibly your circumstances aren't suitable

Why can’t you keep him in while you’re away and have 1 cat sitter visit per day?

Thanks both. He's more of an outdoor cat I think. I think he would go crazy being in for a week. Even after feeding at night he sometimes wants to go back out. Obviously I haven't let him as it's been freezing.
