What was this capsule?

Was given the wrong drug in a healthcare setting. They don’t know what they gave me.

It was a small capsule (smaller than paracetamol) one half was coloured yellow/orange and the other pink/red.

I am absolutely terrified as to what it could have been as I’m 6 weeks pregnant.

Sorry you are going through this. Surely whoever gave you the pill should be completing an investigation into what happened and what you took? It's quite serious to give wrong medication to someone.

Obviously I am not saying it will cause you harm, but that's not the point.

Yes they are but in the meantime I can’t even sleep for worry

https://www.drugs.com/imprints/g443-g443-14900.html This is pretty small?

Or https://www.drugs.com/imprints/mylan-3250-mylan-3250-7581.html

There are so many that fit the description. One is unlikely to cause any issues, you'd think.

Tramadol? I've had red and yellow tramadol and they're quite small - a lot smaller than a paracetamol.

Do you have an image please? I can’t find that colour tramadol when I google unfortunately

Also do you feel any different?

UpUpUpU · 16/02/2025 21:35

Omeprazole where I work is a very small red and yellow capsule. What was it supposed to be?

Worried888 · 16/02/2025 21:37

Ineffable23 · 16/02/2025 21:27

I don't suppose it was this sort of thing?

I've had omeprazole in basically every colour under the sun (white, yellow, blue, red and yellow, I think probably red and white) and it's a common drug with a low dosage so generally a smaller capsule.

I had a look at omeprazole and can see it comes in loads of colours, I guess it could potentially be this and it would perhaps make some sense as alphabetically (if their drugs are stored that way) it would be close to the drug I was supposed to have. I don’t think it’s supposed to be given in pregnancy though 😞

I feel awful anyway, I’ve had some dizziness and some more vaginal bleeding although I have had bleeding on and off throughout anyway (no cause found and heartbeat was seen on scan)

FromHere · 16/02/2025 21:39

No the current batch are all yellow but I've had red and yellow in the past @Worried888

anon168231245630 · 16/02/2025 21:40

Esomeprazole? Every prescription I've picked up of it is a different colour. My current ones are white and pink but my last ones were red and another colour. They're a very small capsule.

This might sound silly but would you mind putting a picture to scale of the tablet please (if they are usually the same size as each other?)

What was this capsule?
Emptyandsad · 16/02/2025 21:50

Omeprazole/esomeprazole can be small capsules and they can come in red and pink

I have some that aren't that colour but are small. I'm trying to post a pic but having trouble with uploading it at the moment

What was this capsule?

I know it was the wrong medication because when I left and collected my prescription from the pharmacy it was completely different in size and colour. I checked online, with the pharmacist and with the ward and the medication prescribed doesn’t come in the colour capsule they gave me and their stock on the ward was in the same colour as my prescription.

Oh bless you, that is honestly baffling and shocking. I really hope they get to the bottom of it for you

PlumFairies · 16/02/2025 21:46

No too large capsules

Thank you, it was a similar size to that judging by the photo I think, but was a pink/red one side and yellow/orangey yellow the other side

What drug should it have been. If we know the drug name then more likely to pin it down - if it was misdispensed it's likely to be a similar name drug

We give omeprazole in pregnancy frequently.

youwerehr · 16/02/2025 21:58

Are you going to answer anyone who has asked what you were meant to be prescribed?

It should have been Oseltamivir. But this is a larger yellow and white capsule - very different to what they gave me. And a scour of every brand of that drug across the world doesn’t show any that look remotely like what I was given

Sebsaloysius · 16/02/2025 22:00

That does sound like it could have been Omeprazole that you might have been given then. I've definitely had pinkish and yellow Omeprazole before, although my current ones are green and white.

Omeprazole can be prescribed during pregnancy - I've taken it 😊
