To go to the Tuesday badminton session even though my friend says it’s not worth it?

I play badminton weekly when I can actually get a space, as the sessions book up fast. The main session I go to is on Thursdays and lasts 1.5 hours. There’s also a Tuesday session but it’s only an hour. A friend think it’s pointless to go for just an hour but I’m considering it because I want to improve.

I’ve also heard that the Tuesday session has better vibes - more relaxed, whereas the Thursday session can be quite competitive, with a lot of men dick riding, mansplaining, and generally taking it way too seriously. I like the challenge of the Thursday session, but I also think the Tuesday one could be a good way to play more often without dealing with all the egos.

AIBU to think an hour is still worth it? Or is my friend right that it’s not enough time to make it worthwhile?

The Tuesday session may not suit your friend, but it doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it. Go along, and see how you get on.

An hour playing badminton can only be more useful than an hour spent not playing it! It will all help you to improve. An hour is a long time - it’s not like you’re spending 15 minutes!

I wouldn't let your friend sway your decision. Go if you want. It sounds like it would be nice.

PonyPatter44 · 16/02/2025 14:27

Do you rely on your friend to take you? If not, and you are getting there under your own steam, i'd just go. I used to really enjoy playing badminton even though i was totally rubbish, I wonder if theres a club round here i could join? Hmm, now you've made me think, OP 😃.

your friend is weird.
is it just badminton that is only worth doing in 90 minute slots or any sport or activity?
60 mins sounds ideal to me. Even 10 mins would be better than nothing.

apart from anything else, why is her opinion relevant? she's your friend, not your coach!

StormingNorman · 16/02/2025 15:47

I’d give the Tuesday session a try. It sounds like it’ll give you the extra practice you want and be quite good fun.

cramptramp · 16/02/2025 15:47

I don't understand why you're asking this question? If you want to go, go.

ICanTellYouMissMe · 16/02/2025 15:48

How is doing something for an hour not worth it!? That makes no sense.

Obviously go, sounds like you want to.

Cynic17 · 16/02/2025 15:50

Just do what you want to do, OP. Why do you need your friend's approval?

WickWood · 16/02/2025 15:50

Just go if you want to go, why would your friends opinion factor into your thinking?

And why does OP think they need approval from anyone on Mumsnet!

Such a weird post. Just go OP, if you don’t like it then don’t go again.

Twice a week will obviously improve your game more than once, and your fitness.

ItGhoul · 16/02/2025 16:46

Can you really not just decide this for yourself? Why the angst? It’s a bloody badminton session, not selling your house. Just do what you want.

DreamW3aver · 16/02/2025 16:50

Did you post a thread about badminton the other day? If not has it become popular again, I dont think I've heard anyone talk about playing it for years and I used to love a badminton evening and I thought it had died a death now that it's all paddl and pickleball
