Reasonable length of time to clean bathroom?

bathromwoes · 16/02/2025 08:32

Please help me asses whether IABU.

How long would you say is reasonable to do a "deep clean" of a family bathroom?

It's a small room; toilet, sink, shower over bath. Tiled floor. Panel sheets around bath/shower.

It's becoming an increasing issue between DH and I, although I accept symptomatic of bigger things!

Thanks!

There’s a distinct difference here between a 15 mine superficial surface clean and a deep clean

for me a deep clean would be an hour because I’d be including all tile grout for example

Wonderi · 16/02/2025 09:47

It takes as long as it takes.

Why would it even be an issue?

As you can see on here it ranges from 10mins-1hour.
So there is no set time.

It also depends if you’re taking your time or you’re going mad.
Sometimes I rush and get it over and done with as quick as possible and sometimes I take my time as it’s more therapeutic.

15 minutes?? A deep clean for me would take several hours. Deep cleaning means cleaning and sanitising absolutely EVERYTHING. Cleaning vents, cleaning the hair traps and plugs, descaling the showerhead, scrubbing the grout, emptying and cleaning the cabinet, cleaning the door, doorframe, skirting etc, cleaning the walls, getting into every single crevice and nook and cranny.

15 mins is scrubbing the loo and giving everything a quick wipe down. Definitely not a deep clean.

I'm with this poster
A proper deep clean for my bathroom will take me up towards the two hour mark

Sunat45degrees · 16/02/2025 09:48

As others have pointed out it's a bit of a moving feast in that there are too many variables. Eg the poster who said it takes her 20 minutes just to clean the shower hose... that would be me if I left dh and my cleaners to the bathroom entirely and then came in to do a clean after 6 months because none of them have ever figured out it needs doing. But I do, so i give it a good spritz every week or two and a bit of a wipe down and it never gets to that state. We have entirely tiled walls which can gather limescale in the grouting but again, if it's done as part of routine clean (it is) if I want to "deep clean" it's not a massively additional big job.

So a really really deep clean of my bathroom would be max 40 minutes, and a routine good clean is 20 or so. But if the bathroom was more difficult to clean or the routine clean was being done less often or less well, the deep clean would take longer.

Puddingrun · 16/02/2025 09:50

I used to be a cleaner and I would say over 40 mins for a deep clean. However, I usually scrub the grout and shower hose (which is always disgusting), with a toothbrush!

Sunat45degrees · 16/02/2025 09:51

Also, I should add, that a big argument dh and I used to have and which is thr main reason we have a cleaner... is that he is extraordinarily slow. He can tidy up very quickly and efficiently but cleaning? He once spent 4 hours vacuuming our very bog standard 3 bedroomed house and still didn't vacuum any of the cobwebs that had built up around the door and window frame our the juiliet balcony in the loft. We nearly got divorced.

I'm impressed at all the 15-20 min comments! For me, to deep-clean our reasonably small bathroom usually takes a good hour at least.

Cleaning the toilet; wiping the mirror, window, tops of shelves and cabinets; bleaching and scrubbing bath, sink and taps; scrubbing the tiles around the bath; taking the shower curtain down to be washed; cleaning the floor and skirting boards... 20 minutes definitely wouldn't cut it!

That’s my whole routine twice a week, apart from taking the shower curtain down, so it takes no time at all. Maybe other people saying those times are the same?

Bananaramad · 16/02/2025 09:51

Ok I said 15 / 20 mins max... I have floor to ceiling tiles. No skirting. Shampoo etc are on a shower gem caddy. Shower doors sink loo grout floors kept clean quick swish daily. So my deep clean is only adding light fittings doors handle radiator. It never gets bad it needs an hour...

Nina1013 · 16/02/2025 09:53

It depends on why/if it actually needs a deep clean. I couldn’t give mine a deep clean that took more than 10-15 mins because it’s cleaned every day so there’s nothing to really clean. Every clean is more a more down.

If it was being cleaned once a week or less than I imagine it would take ages though.

Can I ask why you bleach your bath? I’m intrigued!

Id say 20 minutes for a regular clean. 45 for a really good go at it.

Owmyelbow · 16/02/2025 09:54

Our bathroom is a wet room so a deep clean would involve a thorough clean of the channel drain and cover which takes longer than 15 mins on it's own

Clocloxx · 16/02/2025 09:55

Hour or more for a deep clean.. not just wiping surfaces

Do you not scrub everything down with bleach? Bath toilet floors sinks?

Depends how grotty it is. Perhaps 20 minutes?

I use a bathroom.cleaner that I assume includes bleach or similar (lots of claims to kill 99.9% of bacteria) and also has limescale removing properties. I spray. I leave to work for a minute or two, I give it a good scrub. It's not a huge 20 minute palaver? We have terrible limescale so I imagine if it wasnt don't regularly it would be a bigger and more heavy duty task, but it is done regularly so it isn't.

Cafenoisette · 16/02/2025 10:01

I clean the bathroom twice a week so 15min. If was only once a week, I'd say 30min

Movinghouseatlast · 16/02/2025 10:02

45 minutes. That's what it takes to clean the bathroom in our holiday cottage, which is a deep clean every time.

SheridansPortSalut · 16/02/2025 10:03

For a deep clean, probably an hour.

For an average clean, half an hour.

anon2022anon · 16/02/2025 10:03

Bloody forever. The horrible flooring has raised dots on it that hoard dust, so it needs hoovering/ sweeping, then mopping, then physically wiping with a cloth/ wipe. The tiles are textured too, so no quick swoosh over them. Skirting boards, including round the bath, so dusting. Ledge/ shelf around most of the room, so needs wiping down. Open shelf cupboard, needs dusting. Small bathroom, so I have to take out the bin/ toilet roll basket/ toy tin etc to clean in the small corner.
It takes me an hour to do a regular clean of the bathroom and toilet next door, and that's without doing any grout or on top of cupboards.

Eye opening is the word. Sanitising? What on earth do you mean?

One small bathroom doesn’t take several hours to clean very thoroughly unless one is extremely disorganised.

Emmaagain00 · 16/02/2025 10:05

It takes me 30 minutes exactly.

I vacuum all the dust first. Spray bleach onto the tiles. Take the seal strip off the shower screen (a lot of people seem to leave this to go mouldy). Wipe the radiator and door handles. Then I clean the toilet, bath, sink, shower screen, window sill, shower, bath panel, round the base of the toilet. Top up hand-wash, toilet rolls, change towels. Lastly mop floors.

If I'm in a hurry or it's not particularly dirty, I can do a very quick clean in 10 minutes and make it look decent.

MsTada · 16/02/2025 10:07

For a deep clean, I'd say about an hour.

LurcherMumma · 16/02/2025 10:09

If you are doing it regularly and starting with a dry bathroom I'd say 15/20 mins.

I've done a deep clean that took longer than an hour but that's scrubbing the grouting etc.

I'd clean the toilet more often than this but spend about 30 Seconds on it.

LurcherMumma · 16/02/2025 10:11

I should say I have found a regular quick clean, as long as you're cleaning everything, often negates the need for a long clean. Sometimes I do a little section each time I go to the bathroom and by the end of the week it's done.
